8th Grade Weekly News
Week of January 27th-31st
General News!
Happy Monday!
Today Freshman Academy registration forms and a course selection planning guide was sent home with all of our 8th grade students. These forms already have preliminary suggestions for each students' core academic classes, but we need your help with making some decisions about the elective classes they will be taking. We will need a pretty quick turn around on these, and would like to have them returned by Wednesday.
Congratulations to our SMMS Spelling Bee champion, Inaaya Raoof, a seventh grader, and eighth grader Tristan Jackson was our second place winner. A great job was done by all of our contestants!
The Scholastic Book Fair starts today! Students will have the opportunity to shop during their scheduled ELA class times, as well as two after school opportunities. Tuesday, January 28th from 4:30-6:30, and during STEM Family Night, Wednesday, January 29th from 2:45-5:00pm. We hope to see you there! Here is the link to student preview flyer online: http://bookfairsfiles.scholastic.com/flippingbooks/S20-MS-booklist/S20-MS-booklist.html
Don't forget STEM Family Night, will be held tomorrow night, Tuesday,January 28th from 5:00-6:30 pm. We hope you can join us for this fun and interesting evening. Please see the attached flyer below for more details.
We have had a number of new students taking advantage of Zero Period and Power Hour. These are both available weekly for those who are interested in taking advantage of these opportunities. Remember Wednesday afternoons are generally math and science, while Thursday is ELA and social studies. Also a quick reminder that students must have a signed permission slip to participate, and should be sure to speak to the teacher they would like to stay with to receive a form. 8th grade students are picked up around the back of the building in the bus loop.
Have a great week!
