Volume 3, Issue 25- March 13, 2020
At this time we do not have any update for you regarding canceling activities or any changes in our daily schedule. However, this information can change any minute, so we advise you to check your email periodically for any updates and that you remind students to wash their hands frequently, use hand sanitizer, cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and stay home if they experience any type of cold or flu symptoms!
TODAY is the FINAL Day to Order!
The final date to order a yearbook is TODAY, Friday, March 13th! If your student is interested in a 2019/20 yearbook, it is not too late to purchase one, but time is quickly running out. Although most orders were placed during our Schedule Pick Up Day in August, you can still purchase a yearbook online . Each yearbook is $15 and can be purchased using this link and entering code 40068C. If you are unable to recall if you placed an order at the beginning of the year, please contact the main office at 214-3240. We do NOT purchase any extra yearbooks to sell at the end of the year. March 13th (until midnight) is your absolute last chance to place an order. Our link will be taken down at that time.
Into the Woods, Jr. Performance
"This Tony Award-winning musical includes many of your favorite characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk!), and of course the Witch – all who meet and interact in this whimsical & original show. Step into adventure as their different stories intertwine with each other when they all journey Into the Woods. The musical weaves together the tales of a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king's festival; Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk; and Little Red Riding Hood who just wants to bring Grandma a few croissants! When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever."
~Casting "Into the Woods" Company
Into the Woods, Jr. will be featured on the Gentry Middle School stage March 12-15! If you would like to join us for a fun evening (or matinee), tickets will be sold at the door for only $5 each. Each evening show (March 12th, 13th and 14th) will begin at 7:00 pm and last about an hour. Our matinee, and final show, will be held on Sunday, March 15th and is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm. This Sunday matinee will be a non-ticketed performance, but donations are always welcome. As always, it is family friendly and promises to be an evening well spent watching Gentry’s finest young actors giving it all that they’ve got. Hope to see you there!
Geography Bee
Congratulations to Gentry’s National Geographic Bee Champion, Mustaf Seye. He is one of just 100 students in Missouri to qualify for the state GeoBee. Due to evolving public health risks related to coronavirus, the National Geographic Society has made the decision to shift plans for the state level and cancel the in-person events planned on March 27 in all locations and switch to an online format. We wish Mustaf the best of luck on this online test which he will still take on March 27. If he has the top score, he will qualify for the National Finals which will hopefully be held in Washington DC in May.
Children’s Literature Festival
A select group of GMS students were set to attend the Children's Literature Festival in Warrensburg on Monday, March 16th. Unfortunately, the festival was cancelled. These students have gone above and beyond with extra-curricular reading in order to qualify to attend this festival. In place of the festival, our media specialist has arranged a virtual field trip with Skype visits from three authors. These students will have the opportunity to hear from Antony John, Paul Griffin and Jake Burt. In addition, our wonderful Gentry PTSA has graciously agreed to provide lunch for the students. Way to go Jaguars!

Incoming 8th Grade Students Proof of Immunizations- Don't Delay!
The primary dose of the Tdap and Meningitis vaccines are generally administered to adolescents in the 6th grade (or between the ages of 11-12). It is a state REQUIREMENT that we obtain proof that your student has received the primary dose of both of these vaccinations PRIOR to their first day of 8th grade. If your student will be attending summer school as an incoming 8th grade student they will need to provide this proof PRIOR to starting summer school. Eighth grade students who have NOT provided us with this documentation will not be permitted to attend classes until this documentation is provided.
There is no need to wait! This documentation can be submitted to our nurse any time after your student receives these two vaccines. Providing this proof promptly will ensure that your student will be ready to start the 8th grade without delay.
Worley Street Roundtable
Worley Street Roundtable, a community nonprofit organization, is excited to sponsor the third annual Teachers of Hope and Promise. This recognition is to reward teachers for their good work. There is one winner in each middle and secondary school. Students nominate teachers who work to make sure all students reach their goals. The teacher winners are awarded a certificate and a personal check for $500.
Deadline for nominations is April 10 and awards will be presented in classes sometime in late April. Additionally, winners and their families will be honored at a banquet on May 4. Thanks so much for your participation! If you have any questions or comments, please contact Doris Littrell at dlittrell3@gmail.com .
