Spring ISD Board of Trustees Approves 2022-23 Instructional Calendar
The Spring ISD Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved a 2022-23 Instructional Calendar that will have students starting classes on Aug. 16, 2022, and finishing school on June 1, 2023.
The approved calendar was one of two options presented to staff and the community for input in a survey that drew feedback from more than 1,700 people.
Both calendar options prioritized maximizing student instruction, embedding professional development for teachers, and included days during the year for parent-teacher conferences. Both options include two half-days of instruction to allow for parent-teacher conferences, and the approved calendar setting aside two full days on Nov. 7 and Feb. 17. Additionally, the calendar includes a Fall Holiday on Oct. 10 and a new district holiday on Juneteenth June 19. The approved calendar allows for an additional holiday for Election Day on Nov. 8.
Under the approved calendar, the Winter Holiday will begin for students after a half-day of instruction on Dec. 16 and end with them returning to school on Thursday, Jan. 5. Spring Break will start after a half-day of instruction on March 10, with classes resuming on Monday, March 20.
The Spring ISD Advisory Committee on Education (ACE), which includes staff and teachers, offered input and guidance before the two calendar proposals were presented to the public in the community survey. Both options met all state requirements for instructional time, including 174 days with 440 instructional daily minutes to build in make-up days if necessary.
The 2022-23 Instructional Calendar as well as the current school year’s calendar are located at www.springisd.org/calendars.

Preparing for a Healthy New Year
By Mental Health First Aid USA on December 27, 2021
As 2021 comes to an end, you may be reflecting on the year that has passed and planning for the year to come. This past year was challenging for many, but we now have the opportunity to refocus and have a fresh start. A new year can provide us with hope and, more importantly, a desire to change. In the coming weeks, you may want to reflect on positive changes you would like to see in yourself and use that information to establish meaningful resolutions for a healthy and happy new year.
Resolutions can be any type of goal but often focus on health and wellbeing.
As you begin creating a New Year’s resolution, it’s important to think about what dimensions of wellbeing you would like to focus on to bring balance to your life.
Examples of goals for your resolution might be to:
- Improve physical health by getting more sleep, eating healthy, and exercising.
- Improve emotional health by practicing self-care, meditating, being more present, and addressing mental health.
If you plan to keep a New Year’s resolution, use these tips to help you get started:
- Write down your goals. Writing your resolution on a piece of paper will help make your goals more tangible and help you to remember them. After you’ve written your goals down, put them somewhere where you’ll see them often to keep them at the forefront of your mind and help you stay focused.
- Begin with a micro-step. Micro-steps are tiny actions you can take to achieve your goals. The point is to effortlessly create a habit that will fit into your schedule and slowly lead to more considerable change. Breaking your goals into micro-steps can also make them more realistic. Establishing these habits and building on them incrementally will ultimately lead to more significant change and help you keep your resolution in the process.
- Start right now! Healthy habits can be picked up any time of the year. Focus on the present and start your commitment to change as soon as possible to get a head start on your resolution!
As you work on your resolution, you may encounter setbacks along the way — but remember this is a journey. Take time to understand and reflect on the challenges you face so you can work harder to overcome them. There are limitless possibilities for change in the new year. All you have to do is be willing to work for them.
