Message From the Principal
Here's hoping had a wonderful (and healthy) March Break. Obviously there are a lot of unknowns as we re-start with many less COVID-19 protocols in place. As mentioned previously, I know that this will be a relief for some of you and a source of stress for others, while others might fall somewhere in between.
To summarize these changes, masking is no longer required in any grades (unless a student is attending school while there is a symptomatic individual in their household). While we still encourage the use of masks, this will now be a decision for individual students and their families to make based on their own circumstances or comfort levels.
Cohorting and distancing requirements have also been lifted, meaning we will be able to allow students to engage in more activities involving multiple classes. Students will also be permitted to mix with other grades on the school yard (except for Kindergartens, who for safety reasons will continue to have their own dedicated area outside). Due to the number of students at Holsgrove these days, students will still not all be out together, but certain classes will now be combined on the yard at recess. Morning arrival and afternoon departure routines will remain the same for now.
Public Health still asks that all students and staff complete daily screening at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ before attending school.
If you have questions about any of these changes, please feel free to contact the school at your convenience.
Thank you, and have a great week!
Welcome to Kindergarten! This is an exciting time for both you and your child(ren).
At WJ Holsgrove, our Kindergarten program helps children get the best possible start in school. Your student will be challenged and encouraged to do their very best. Our caring team of educators is with them every step of the way!
If your student is four or five by the end of December, now is the time to register for September 2022. We typically welcome new families to orientation events in May of each year. We will share more about these opportunities soon. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
The Limestone District School Board has also arranged a virtual family information session for students with special education needs on Wednesday, March 2 starting at 9:30 a.m.
Please don't hesitate to call the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Module de l'Acadie
Module de l’Acadie is a grade 7-8 school that offers two types of French Immersion programming for students in our catchment area:
-Early French Immersion for students already enrolled in French Immersion in grade 6
-Extended French Immersion, as part of LDSB’s Choices at 7 programs. This program is designed to develop students’ skills in French. Through this immersion experience, students will communicate and interact in French with growing confidence and fluency. The program implements the Ontario curriculum and provides authentic experiences as well as marketable second language skills. The Extended French Immersion program accepts students who are currently in Grade 6 Core French and who have a desire to learn in French across most of the curriculum areas. Please see the LDSB site for more information: https://www.limestone.on.ca/programming/choices_at_7
For more information, please join us for our virtual information event on Thursday, March 31st at 6:30pm. Link for Acadie Open House Live Event March 31

SAFE ARRIVAL ATTENDANCE SYSTEM
How to report a student absence using SafeArrival
There are three ways you can report your student’s absence in advance:
1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store or from School Messenger website or you can select it from within the LDSB mobile app. The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Make sure you use the same email address your child’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system. Select Attendance, then Report an Absence.
2. Use the School Messenger website. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account. You may have already created an account when we introduced the Communicate broadcast system. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
3. Call 1-855-257-9349 toll-free to report an absence using the automated phone system.
***Please do not call the school directly to report your student's absence***
