Whale Tales
Fighting against whaling and whales in captivity.
What is Whale Tales?
Whaling
(“Whales, Why They Matter” www.worldwildlifefund.org.)
The IWC has put a ban on commercial whaling in 1986, but since then 31,984 whales have been killed in whaling.
Iceland and Norway have used "scientific claims" to get around the whaling ban. (“Whales killed by whaling since moratorium.” wwf.panda.org.)
Endangered Whales
Orcas
These beautiful and gentle creatures are taken from the waters in Iceland and Norway and used for entertainment. These animals are then forced into small cement pools to swim circles until they grow psychotic, aggressive, and even suicidal.

Tilikum
The Orca whale named Tilikum at SeaWorld is known for being involved in the death of Veteran SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau.
Since the trainers death, and multiple other incidents at SeaWorld, we've begun to question the treatment of whales at theme parks.
Captivity causes aggressive, depressive, and suicidal behaviors in whales that is unknown in the wild, and mainly experienced in captivity.
"Abuse?” www.seaworldofhurt.com/
Tilikum has suffered many injuries over the years. The most often being raking and bites from the other female whales. When Tilikum wouldn't perform a trick correctly, the trainers would with hold food from him, and the other females he was trained with. The females would then get mad at Tilikum and attack him, leaving him scratched and bloody. This is another example showing how aggressive captivity makes whales, and the negative effects of forcing incompatible whales to live together.

Collapsed Dorsal Fin
Although trainers and employees at the theme park have tried to persuade audiences that this occurrence is normal, it is in fact, not.
Collapsed dorsal fin is a very rare thing to happen in the wild. Factors of captivity such as reduced activity, change in diet, blood pressure, and stress can all cause collapsed dorsal fin.
This is neither a normal or healthy thing for male Orca's to experience.

Social Behaviors
Being separated from their pods is distressing, and being stuck with whales from different pods leads to abuse, social outcasting, and all-in-all harm.
