Teens Starving for Intimacy: An Epidemic of Disconnect in the Age of Connection
Calling all parents with kids who have phones! Please consider attending the parent workshop “Teens Starving for Intimacy: An Epidemic of Disconnect in the Age of Connection” on Monday, October 29th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Steger/Givens auditorium. Details on this workshop can be found by clicking HERE. This is an important conversation we need to have with our kids to protect them as they use their phones and social media platforms.
If you are in need of more resources to help you speak with your child(ren) about social media and cyberbullying, visit https://www.screenagersmovie.com/tech-talk-tuesdays and/or https://us.norton.com/internetsecurity-how-to-how-to-talk-to-your-kids-about-cyberbullying.html. In addition, we ask that you report all concerns related to social media and group texts, immediately.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe.

Please take a moment to share some feedback about our principal. Feedback is important for continued growth and progress for our school.
Counseling Group
Hixson will soon begin counseling groups for children in seventh and eighth grade whose parents are currently separated or divorced. The primary purpose of the group is to let children know that they are not alone in this situation. Also, the group provides a safe and confidential place to discuss feelings and concerns.
Your child does not need to currently display any concerns to benefit from the group. As children move through each developmental stage, different issues concerning separation, divorce and remarriage arise and need to be addressed. It is helpful to take advantage of any opportunity to open lines of communication for your child.
The counseling group will meet once a week and will rotate the class hours we meet. This will happen so that they do not miss the same class twice. The group will meet 6 times. Some of your children have participated in this group in the past. If you are interested in having your child participate or be a part of the group again, please discuss this with him/her. Students are welcome to join the group at any time during the school year if the need arises. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Mrs. Peterson.
Our grief group has been created to fulfill a variety of needs. Mrs. Peterson will be facilitating this support group. If you would like your student to participate, please let her know at Peterson.linda@wgmail.org.
