June 2021
Hello, Bloomingdale!
Hope this final newsletter of the 2020-2021 school year finds you well. Recently, I had the pleasure of authoring an article for a leadership journal on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted leadership, education and our students. As I wrote the article, I realized it was the first time I actually fully looked back to the start (March 2020) and reflected on where we have been. Like most of us, I have been operating in the model of: new challenges arises - face it - overcome it- repeat. I know first hand as a parent this model really can be applied to every day life over the past year plus.
On behalf of our entire district staff, I want to thank you for your support this past school year. This year, more than ever, had been a team oriented process to continue to deliver a high quality of education. From the bottom of my heart I thank our staff for the tremendous effort that was put in. Our staff navigated each new turn with perseverance , professionalism and pride. Although I have only been in Bloomingdale for a short few months, it was the pride for helping our students that shined through most of all. For our families - thank you for standing by us as a community as we navigated each turn. I recognize that each and every turn and difficult decision by us as a district also produced ten more difficult decisions at home. We are appreciative of your support and look toward (hopefully) some more normal days ahead.
Looking towards next year, there are two pieces of information I would like to share:
- Below in this newsletter you will find a reflection survey related to collect data to help guide our reopening plan. I encourage you to please take the five minutes to complete it. This data will help guide our official reopening plan that will be submitted to the NJ Department of Education. Once collected, the plan will be presented publicly at a Board of Education Meeting.
- Last Wednesday evening, the Board of Education officially approved an employment contract for me to become the permanent Superintendent of Schools. I am excited to share that I have accepted that offer to spend the next five (and hopefully more) years leading the Bloomingdale School district. In addition to my role as Superintendent, I will also directly oversee the curriculum management of the district. With that said, it does leave me stepping out of my role as Director of Student Services. The district has already begun collecting resumes for interested applicants and will be forming a committee of stakeholders to select our next director in the near future.
In closing, as we are at the final stretch of school, I again wanted to thank you and encourage you to reflect on the path it’s been the past 15 months. It’s been quite a journey to say the least so please take some time to enjoy this upcoming summer.
Be well, Bloomingdale.
