Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
March 5, 2020
Dear Parents,
As you are aware, health and safety concerns have arisen throughout our country due to the prevalence of coronavirus. Providing for the health, welfare, and safety of our students is of utmost importance to us. I wanted to share with you some of the steps our school is taking to prevent the spread of any illness.
- Lunch tables are wiped down daily with a disinfectant spray before and after each group of students eats.
- All students will be washing their hands before snack and lunch times.
- Students are not taking drinks directly from the water fountain. Please allow your child to bring a water bottle to school and they can refill that bottle at the drinking stations.
- At the end of each day, all desks, doorknobs, light switches, hand rails, etc. are cleaned with a disinfectant. Teachers have been provided with the necessary supplies in their classrooms.
- Please reinforce with your children not to share food or drink with others, to place a napkin under their food, as well as the proper way to cover a sneeze or cough.
- As always, we are asking that all ill students and faculty remain at home for the proper length of time.
- If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
As we continue on our Lenten journey and move into the month of March, many great things are happening at school!
- Our students rotate grade levels and attend daily Mass, as well as Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent.
- Father Suskey met with our 2nd grade class to talk about the Sacrament of Penance which they will receive in two weeks. Please keep these students and their families in your prayers.
- Our 3rd graders are finishing up working on a Science Unit on force. They are busy working in groups designing mazes through which they can move an object. They have to use their knowledge of force to make the object move without touching it.
- Please remember that tomorrow marks the end of the 2nd trimester of school. Report cards will be distributed on Monday, March 16th.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God’s Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley

Student Council & National Junior Honor Society Spotlight
Projects for the month of March
- Student Council service project during Lent: "Beads of Courage" - The student council will be working with the Bridgette Lauren Gori Child Life Foundation and Beads of Courage to honor those children coping with serious illness. This Lenten service project is an opportunity for students to offer up their day for someone in need. On March 30th, children will donate a dollar or more for their bead and dress down day. Students will wear the bead for the day to remember and pray for these children. At the end of the day, children will write an encouraging note and donate the bead which will be given to a child with an illness. The Beads of Courage program believes that “every time a bead is given courage is honored, suffering is alleviated, resilience is strengthened, and the experience of human caring is affirmed.” Our hope is that the OLGC student body is able to share the joy of the Easter season with these children.
- Our NJHS students continue to work with their peers during tutoring sessions every Tuesday. They will also be working with our middle school Social Studies teacher in hosting a "History Bee" to take place during Terra Nova week in the afternoon.
