Dear ES Families:
The fourth quarter is in full swing and the Elementary has some special events happening at the end of the year that we would like you to add to your calendar.
The Read-A-Thon will be held on Wednesday, May 13th in combination with our Color Team Day. On May 13th we will spend the day on various literacy activities such as Mystery Reader, read alouds, partner reading, silent reading, AR quizzes, and a special color team activity dedicated to reading. This is a special fundraiser that is held every year that allows us to add new books to our Media Center. Thank you in advance for your support!
We will be having MAP testing from May 14th - June 5th. More information regarding specific testing dates will be sent home by your homeroom teacher. This is a time for our students to shine and demonstrate everything that they have learned this school year!
Next year we will begin a new initiative! The Elementary will have its own student council. In preparation for this new student activity, we will be holding elections for officers at the end of the 4th quarter. Next week, Mr. Foster will share with students the function of the Elementary Student Council and the 4 officer roles that students may campaign for. These will be President (open to all Grade 3 students) and Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer (open to Grade 3 and Grade 2 students). Be on the look out for more information soon. Important dates have been added to Edline.
On June 10th, we are inviting parents to an interactive Open House we have named STEAM Day. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Parents may come to our building any time from 8:30 am - 10:00 am to explore what our students have been up to in these 5 content areas. You will be asked to bring your own device such as IPad or Smartphone. Some bulletin boards and classrooms will have interactive activities and demonstrations for parents. More information will be shared as the date gets closer.
Sincerely, Andrea Torchin

After School Activities
A Note from our Athletic Department:
Fourth quarter after school activities have begun! Please let your homeroom teacher know if you need a form to sign up for an after school activity. Forms can also be found on Edline.
Students may not stay after school if they are not signed up for an after school activity or have a practice for a competitive sport. Students need to be supervised after school by a teacher or coach. Please support us in our efforts to keep students safe. If a student is found on campus, parents will be notified. Thanks in advance for discussing this with your child.
Preschool & Kinder:
Coach Acuña offers soccer training for preschool and Kinder students after school on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 12:30 pm. Parents need to provide their own transportation back home at 2 pm. To register, please call Coach Acuña at 6713-9950. Students need to bring water, a snack, hat, and sunblock.
For more information contact Jesus Borras, After School Activities Coordinator at jeborras@balboa.edu.pa or Richard Gough at rgough@balboa.edu.pa for Competitive Sports.

After School Emergency Contact
Our individual school offices close at 4:00 p.m., which has caused a problem for parents who are trying to contact the school about after-school transportation issues later than that time. While we understand that traffic can cause delays in picking up children on time, it is very important that parents make arrangements to be on time for after-school activity pick up. In the case that there is a delay after 4:00 p.m., parents who are not able to contact their child directly by cell phone may also contact the Athletic Office 302-0037 or the Clyde Cumberbatch, our Athletic Director, at his cellular phone number 6781-1852.
