Reading Junior High Longhorns
Message from your Principal
What a great week we had last week with a push towards academic excellence, the start of our PBIS Longhorn Lottos, and the beginning of another athletic season of basketball. I am so glad that our district has put protocols in place that allow our kids the opportunity to play sports during this time. Our kids and coaches are truly stepping up and doing everything they can to keep their season going. I look forward to having our stands filled with fans again, but at least for now the kids are able to enjoy being part of a team again. I do stress academic success as the first priority in school, but with all that seemed to be taken away over the last year due to Covid, it is great to see some of our kids enjoying playing a sport and competing again.
I tell our students every day how important it is that they work hard in their classes and reach out for extra help if they do not understand something in class. Our teachers have tutorial times set up for both on campus and virtual students. Please contact your child's counselor if you need any help with this. We will be sending out information soon regarding National Junior Honor Society- we have quite a few Longhorns who have been achieving great academic success this year and we are going to celebrate them!
This week begins another round of instructional model change opportunity for the 5th 6 weeks. Please complete the form in Skyward if you are changing learning models (going from face to face to virtual or coming back to face to face learning from virtual). We cannot honor changes after the deadline due to the complicated task of changing our master schedule every 6 weeks to accommodate as much social distancing in classes as possible.
The Course Selection process for next year has also begun with a lot of information coming soon. Please see the details below for your child's grade level and the upcoming events to ensure a smooth transition into next year's class schedule.
Thank you for sending us the Best of the Best!

LCISD Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Procedure
Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Procedures
This month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) amended their COVID-19 quarantine guidance to allow two shorter options for the quarantine period.
Beginning Jan. 4, 2021, Lamar CISD will update the District’s COVID-19 quarantine guidelines based on this guidance from the CDC, as well as guidance from TEA and UIL. Please see the updated quarantine procedures below. This update does not impact individuals with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive test.
Individuals identified as being exposed to an individual with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive test will be quarantined based on the following:
- 10 days after the last close contact, so long as they continue to monitor themselves daily for symptoms and take appropriate precautions through day 14
- 7 days after the last close contact, after receiving a negative test result (administered at least 5 days after the last close contact), so long as they continue to monitor themselves daily for symptoms and take appropriate precautions through day 14
Lamar CISD employees who return to work from these shorter quarantine windows should regularly monitor themselves to ensure they remain symptom-free and take appropriate precautions for the duration of the 14-day incubation period. Individuals who develop symptoms at any time during the 14-day incubation period should not report to work or school.
Click here for more COVID-19 exposure and quarantine information.

Yearbook Pictures for Virtual Students
The Reading Junior High Yearbook Staff has teamed up with Balfour to provide an easy way to submit your portrait for inclusion in the 2020-2021 yearbook. You should have received a link directly from Balfour this week with a personalized link for your student.
We're looking for a simple, classic headshot image of your student. The best photos are those with neutral, simple backgrounds with space above the head and shoulders for ample cropping. Ideal images are those taken in a vertical manner with no other people in the photo. Be sure your photo meets all school dress code guidelines for inclusion in the book.
Please use the EZPix guide from Balfour below for instructions on how to upload your photo.
If you are unable to upload your student's photo, we will be able to take your student's picture on February 2, 2021, 4:30-5:30 pm, in the LGI.
Smart Tag Student ID Replacements
If your student needs a Smart Tag ID replacement, they can order a new one for $5 at the front office. Cash and correct change, please.
RJH 2021 Yearbooks are now on sale!
Early bird price of $40 so order yours today!
Virtual students who have not had their picture taken will be receiving an email from Balfour in a few weeks regarding yearbook pictures.

Nurse's Notes - A Message From Mrs. Turner
Due to COVID concerns, I am asking that you do not bring Tylenol, ibuprofen, decongestants, etc. to school for your child. These types of medications can mask the symptoms of illness. I have attached a "Can My Child Go To School" flow chart with guidelines for when you can send your student to school and when they can return to school if they have been ill. In alignment with LCISD Guidelines, any students with symptoms of illness will be sent home whether they have a fever or not. Thank you for your patience and understanding with this process, as we work together to ensure that our students and staff remain healthy.
