Patterson Elementary
Parent Blast - November 30, 2020
Tune In!
During CDL it is more important than ever to find ways to connect as a community and have fun despite being apart physically. Last week we had some fun with crazy hair day (see pictures below of some awesome staff members)! As in years past, we will have school spirit week right before Winter Break - stay tuned to find out how to participate and send us your pictures! I will also be hosting some principal read-alouds this month and hope your kiddos can join in as we read about celebrations around the world (see dates/times below). As always, you can follow our daily fun and watch student-led announcements by following our Facebook page, Twitter or scrolling to the embedded twitter feed on our website home page. Let's stay connected even though we are physically apart.

YALA
HSD has partnered with the Hillsboro Public Library to provide students with a Youth Access Library Account! This means that HSD students can pair their YALA login to Sora to access eBooks from the Washington County Cooperative Library System (WCCLS).
Also included in YALA: Access to online tutoring and databases!
Library Card vs. YALA:
The YALA does not come with a physical card. It can be used to access ebooks on Sora or to check out 5 books or audiobooks in person at WCCLS library locations. Note: YALA is only for books and audiobooks. If students want to check out additional books or other library items such as DVDs, video games, etc, they must sign up for a full-access library card by contacting a WCCLS library.
If students already have a library card from WCCLS, they were not issued a YALA. To sync a library card to Sora, use the barcode number on your library card.
If families opted out of sharing directory information, students were not issued a YALA. They may sign up for a library card by contacting a WCCLS library.
For further information about YALA, contact your teacher or Mrs. Lewis.

Kindness Challenge of the Day
Parent Support - Office Hour
Each Friday, Mrs. Cary our Student Success Coach, will be hosting WEEKLY drop-in office hours for Caregivers at 1pm. This is a good place for parents/caregivers who may have questions about parenting through distance learning, mental health or behavior concerns, or those just wanting more guidance and reassurance about how to meet their children's needs during these difficult times, to bring questions and get ideas.
