Class Curriculum
Reader's Workshop
First Grade - We continue to work on building strategies for reading non-fiction. A large focus this week is expanding our vocabulary and helping make sense of new words we come in contact with.
Second Grade - We are still in our unit of nonfiction. This week we will be focusing on the language we can expect to find in books, and how to use context clues and text features to figure out the meaning of those words.
Writer's Workshop
We are all finished with our first nonfiction book about animals, and now we will be moving on to an All About book. The students will get to write about a topic of their choosing and tell their reader all about it!
Math
First Grade - We continue to work on developing strategies to help us be more fluent with addition and subtraction. This week we will be adding 3 digits at a time and looking for relationships (doubles, friends of ten ...etc)
Second Grade - On Monday we will be finishing up with money word problems! Tuesday begins our unit on Geometry where the kiddos will be exploring 2-D and 3-D shapes, their attributes, and composing and decomposing shapes... which leads us into FRACTIONS.
Science
We are making a switch from social studies to science this week, with a focus on animal life cycles.

SANTA
Dear families,
We are in a particular different position with children in our class ranging 2 grade levels. Many of them are 'still believers' , while others do not believe in Santa. If your child is a non-believer, I ask you to have a little heart to heart with them about respecting (and helping keep the magic alive) for those children who still believe. Sincere thanks!
