During Course Collaboration, we will discuss district data trends, and teachers will have time to look at their individual data, plan next steps, and share best practices. We will also highlight some best practices that specifically address areas of concern that were discussed during last Wednesday's Webinar. Teachers will have time to plan for the upcoming Expository unit as well. Bring your best ideas to share with your colleagues!

IA Scanning: Please review the IA scanning guide that was email out earlier this week or check for the document on the Hub under the Interim Assessment tab. This document gives you a step-by-step guide on how to bubble for the OERs and essay.
Literary Device Review: All resources for the Literary Device Review are posted on the The Hub. Some steps that can be done to ensure student mastery include the following:
- Level 1 Identification questions on Exit Slips to assess student knowledge of the term.
- Entrance quizzes that challenge the students to identify definitions to multiple literary devices (this can vary in length and time).
- Flashcards that students create at home and practice to ensure a tool is given for student usage.
- Clearly outlining study time in the Assign Yourself and communicate to parents the importance of independent review.
- Rationale: If students do not know the language of the question, they will not be able to effectively infer the correct response.
- Example: What was the overall tone of the selection? If students do not know what tone means they will be trying to answer a question they have no context or understanding about.

Embedded Assessment: Due to the IA grading and quick scanning turn-around, please do not feel pressure to grade all the EA2's by the end of Q1. You can take this assignment as a grade for Q2. Please reach out to George D. Galindo if you have specific questions.
