Last Meeting Recap

OMG, are we having so much fun completing the Jewelers badge! Your daughters are so very creative and I can't wait for you to see what they have for you for Mother's Day (though you may have to keep under lock and key so they don't abscond with their creations). They have enjoyed this one so much, we may have to do this again, just for the fun of it.

Thank you so much to everyone for letting your daughter come to last night's extra meeting. We were able to get the girls who couldn't make last week's meeting caught up and we are definitely more prepared for the last steps to complete this badge and make the deadline. Also, thank you to all the parents who responded back to my last minute request for volunteer assistance. You all are so great about pitching when we need your help.

Scholarships available!

Registration is now open for GSWCF summer camps. Our Service Unit has 5 scholarships available for camp. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, please click on the link below. The deadline for the scholarship application is 30 April.

Home Energy Audit - due next meeting

As part of the Investigate energy portion of their Get Moving Journey, the girls must complete an energy audit. Since the facilities where we meet are too new in construction, they would not be learning much from an audit here. However, I'm sure that most of our homes were probably built 10 or more years ago and could use some energy updates.

Therefore, using the information in their Get Moving books, pages 61 -75 (it's mostly pictures and worksheets), help your daughter with an audit of your home. They are to record the good energy findings and the energy wasters on separate pages of their energy book (second set of 3 white pages in their journals). The third page is to complete the building bio portion of the audit (see page 74).

Daily Happiness Record

This year's World Thinking Day theme is "Connect". In order for the girls to be able to make a difference in other's lives, they need to understand what they need to be happy and confident. So to accomplish this, they are to connect with themselves by recording 3 things that made them happy each day for 5 days. They can either write them down or draw pictures. These are to be recorded in the 3rd section of their Journal (5 white pages section). They'll share this at our next meeting.

Items or Events on the Horizon

First Aid Badge

David Marlowe has graciously volunteered to help with the completion of this badge. We'll start this badge in May. We will be collecting items for a Troop First Aid kit to be used for when we go camping, as well as to have for our meetings. I'll be forwarding a Sign-up for these items later this month.

Horseback Riding

This will need to be done on a weekend, June 4 is the lucky day. We'll be going to R & R Ranch in Lithia for this event. The girls who went horseback riding with the Troop as first year Brownies will remember this place. They have a complete program for the girls to get their Horseback Riding badge and the cost is very cheap at $25/girl. The other stables wanted $40-$50. An evite will be going out for this soon.

Early BIrd Registration

Early Bird registration started 15 April and runs through 30 June. Our Council highly recommends that the girls' renewals be made by the Troop. We haven't done this in the past mostly because we haven't had the funds and secondly, we didn't know who would be committed to returning the following year. We now have the funds to do this; however, when we discussed the idea with the girls, they were a little ambivalent about making this decision, mostly because they weren't sure if they would be back next year. So, we'll discuss some more (decision doesn't have to be made until the end of this school year).

Bronze Award

At our last meeting, the majority of the girls decided that they'd like to pursue the Bronze Award. We will complete this next year, so Sydney and I will look into the necessary training this summer. We'll discuss this more at our parent meeting in August after school starts. Meanwhile, if you can talk to your daughter about ideas she may have about a service project that contributes to our community in some way.
