NOTES FROM THE REGISTRAR
Tardies
The school day begins promptly at 8:45 a.m. Students who are not in the building at this time are considered tardy and will be asked to report to the office for an Admit to Class slip. Parents who drop their children off after this time are required to escort their child to the office and sign them in at the receptionist’s desk. ALL TARDIES ARE CONSIDERED UNEXCUSED UNLESS A DOCTOR’S NOTE IS PROVIDED.
Car Riders
Thank you for respecting and following the procedures to garantee a safe experience for everyone during our morning car rider process! Drop off in the morning begins at 8:30. This is just a reminder that our staff comes back into the building at 8:45, when our bell rings. Our afternoon car rider line continues to grow and get longer. Thank you for your patience! Our dismissal begins at 4:05.
When Your Child is Absent
- When your child is absent, it is not necessary at the elementary level to call the school to report the absence. Calling will not excuse your child’s absence. E-mails for excuses are not accepted. Guardian may turn in the note themselves, send it with the student(s), or can fax a note to 281-463-5529. If you fax the note, please call us at 281-463-5885 to confirm we received it. Excuse notes must include the absent date(s), reason for the absence, child’s full name (first & last), and guardian signature.
- If your child is sent home by the nurse and is absent any following days, we will need a note to excuse those absences.
- Under the Mandatory Attendance Law, the state requires a court warning for excessive absences. Remember to always send an excuse note with your child within three days when they return to school, explaining the reason for the absence. Any excuse received after three days is considered unexcused and could result in a court warning.
Moving? Withdrawing Your Child from School?
Please notify Ms. Olivarez in the attendance office 24-48 hours before coming to withdraw your child from school. The withdrawal process goes much faster and smoother with the extra notification. This extra time allows Ms. Olivarez to notify teachers, the librarian, get materials together, etc. A consent form will need to be signed by the parent or legal guardian. You will need these papers to register at the new school.
Transportation Changes
If you need to change your child’s transportation, please send a note with your child or fax it to 281-463-5529. If you fax the note, please call us at 281-463-5885 to confirm we received it. All notes must include child’s full name, teacher, and whether the change is permanent or temporary. Please specify the date(s). All changes must be in writing. No changes will be made after 3:00 p.m.
Rainy Day
If you have a walker/bike rider, please make sure that you have an alternate way for your child to get home. We also ask that you indicate if they are rain or shine walkers/bike riders. Rainy Day will be called by 3:30pm.

- Great Kindness Week: Holmsley’s Great Kindness and Respect Week is March 2nd-6th. This year we added Respect to the theme and our lessons to help our students understand that Kindness and Respect should work together. On Friday, March 6th, students and staff may dress in clothing representing their culture or wear red, white and blue to represent their American culture. Please see the attached activities for the week.
