Cities in Europe

Visit Hungary

Short introduction about Budapest

The capital city of Hungary is where I live, Budapest. Buda on the right side of the river Danube is built among hills, while Pest on the left side is built on the plain. To introduce Budapest to a tourist from abroad or to my English 101 class I would tell him some historical and geographical data about the capital of Hungary. For example, 2000 years ago the Romans called this settlement Aquincum, that means the “city of waters” because there were and still there are a lot of water springs and medicinal baths in this region. Today Budapest is a busy metropolis with a population of 2 million people. The city is rich in historical and cultural monuments, works of art and natural beauties. My friend here from the tennis team took a Europe trip during the summer and they came to visit Budapest and they said my city was in top 3 during their trip.

History Buildings

With over a thousand years of history, Budapest's architecture ranges from Roman ruins to Art Nouveau palaces. Noted for its beautiful late 19th and early 20th century Eclectic-style buildings, the city is full of sights to see. For architecture buffs, 'Budapest 100' is an annual event that offers a unique behind the scenes look at historic buildings built exactly 100 years ago in 1913.

Cnn's article "Budapest is second in the world"

I found an article at the CNNTravel’s website about the world’s best cities and Budapest has ranked second in the world. The magazine said this year's list was the most comprehensive ever, with 1.3 million votes cast for a whopping 16,000 properties around the world.
