What are civil rights

Civil rights are the rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality. Civil rights are the rights that an individual has. They state that everyone has the right to be treated equal no matter the gender or race.

How did it happen

The first big civil rights movement happened in March or 1963 when Martin Luther King Jr. led a march on Washington. On the day of the March millions of people watch the famous "I have a dream speech" on television. All the marchers held hands and sang "We shall overcome" to represent the blacks and whites coming together.
