Messages from Principal Menard

It was great to see so many of you at our first family event of the year! Our third annual Muffins with Mom was a huge success! It is always wonderful to see our students spend some extra quality time with loved ones at the beginning of the day! These events remind us of how important our relationships are with our students and our community! We look forward to continuing to build community together and hope to see all of our dads at Donuts with Dad on November 2nd at 8:00 AM!

Our next community event we hope to see all of you at is the Annual Alsup Fall Festival! This year our Fall Festival will take place on October 26th from 5:00-7:00 PM! Our PIE group will sponsor a Trunk-or-Treat Lane, a haunted house, food trucks, music and more! If you have any questions, please reach out to our Parent Liaison, Diana Romero or Fall Festival organizer, Regina Hurtado.

As we enter the month of October, flu and cold season are upon us. Please remind your students of the importance of washing their hands properly to reduce the spread of germs. If your child has a fever of 100 degrees, is vomiting or has diarrhea, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. If your child is out, please report his or her absence to our attendance liaison at 303-853-5703.

I appreciate everyone's help in getting our school year off to a great start! We have made some minor adjustments to the morning entrance routine in order to help with our long breakfast lines. Primary students, grades K-2, will continue to play on the playground until 8:30 when the 2nd bell rings and the classroom teachers will come outside to get his or her class. Please remember, students may begin arriving to school at 8:20 AM.

Finally, we are looking forward to meeting with all of our parents at parent/teacher conferences on October 22nd and 24th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. You should receive a conference form from your teachers in the near future, if you have not already. We are also looking for parents to volunteer to send in dinner items for our wonderful teachers on Monday the 22nd. Please let Ms. Romero know if you would like to help!

Happy Fall!

Annual Fall Festival

We are excited to continue the Alsup tradition of our annual Fall Festival. We have many fun and exciting activities planned! If you or someone you know is interested in hosting a decorated trunk for our Trunk-or-Treat Lane, please let us know! We are also looking for volunteers and candy donations!

Homework Expectations

There are many opinions around the topic of homework. At Alsup, we believe homework is a time for our students to practice and reinforce the skills they are learning in class and for students to learn responsibility. We believe that students should also have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities outside of school. At Alsup, it is a school wide expectation that all students spend at least 30 minutes reading. Beyond that, each grade level has a posted homework policy. If homework is taking longer than 45-60 minutes a night, please contact your teacher.
