Connected Community Wellness Screen Program
During the upcoming 2019-2020 school year, every third grade student will have the opportunity to participate in the Connected Community Wellness Screen Program. Screening will be provided by Samaritan Counseling Center. Our goal is to have 100% of our third-grade students participate!
What is the Wellness Screen Program?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends an annual mental health screen for all school-age students. Mental health check-ups are just as important as annual physical checkups! The Wellness Screen Program uses a nationally recognized, evidenced-based mental health screen to identify common mental health concerns. Parents will receive additional information by letter and email. The Wellness Screen Program is FREE, confidential, and voluntary.
For more information visit the Wellness Screen website at https://samaritan-counseling.com/wellness-screen/. For specific questions or concerns, please contact Tricia Plutz, Wellness Screen Program Clinician, at 920-851-1760 or pplutz@samaritan-counseling.com.

Box Tops Contest
Important to Note: Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip and send them to school. Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for our school. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.
If you see the new label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for your school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online.
For more information on Box Tops changes, follow the link: https://www.boxtops4education.com/

Alumni Reception will be held this year prior to Fall Fest. Spread the word and join us from 4:00 -- 5:00 p.m. for an informal alumni reception for Classical graduates prior to the start of Fall Fest October 11th. This is an excellent time to reconnect with Classical staff, fellow classmates, and friends!

Fall Fest begins at 5:00 p.m. Classical parent Ann Krieg has graciously offered to coordinate Fall Fest again this year. Thank you, Ann! Volunteer sign up opportunities have been sent home via the Pegasus Flyers and email. The link to sign up to help: https://signup.com/go/gsLUPAY
Scholastic Book fair will open at Classical School during Fall Fest on October 11th. The book fair is an excellent opportunity to purchase quality books from Scholastic. Elementary & Middle School Conferences
October 15th, 16th, 17th Elementary
October 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th Middle School
Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held from 4:00-6:15 PM on the dates listed above. We use the online system SignUp.com for scheduling conferences. Conferences with homeroom teachers for elementary-aged students will be 15 minutes in length as usual. You will also be given the opportunity to schedule a conference with your child’s Spanish, music, art, or physical education teacher. These will be 5-minutes in length.
Due to limited time, K-6 classroom teachers can accommodate only their homeroom students. If you have a concern that you would like to discuss with your child’s math or reading teacher, please request a conference directly with that teacher outside the conference night dates.
Middle school classroom teachers will be located in their homerooms. Locations of specialists—Spanish, music, etc--will be published closer to conference dates. Middle School conferences will be scheduled in 5-minute increments for which you may sign up for up to two spots per teacher (10 minutes total), if you choose. If you do not have specific concerns, choosing not to schedule a conference or scheduling a 5-minute conference will suffice. An extra day of conference spots will be offered to MS parents during fall conferences to accommodate the number of middle school students. Spring middle school conferences will be by parent or teacher request only and will be offered over two days.
Part-time Classical teachers will offer limited sign up spots. You can always schedule an individual conference outside the school schedule as needed.
If you have any issues with the online signup, please contact Kathy Diedrich at diedrichkathryn@aasd.k12.wi.us.

Influenza and What You Need to Know
Influenza (also called flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Flu viruses are spread in respiratory droplets caused by coughing and sneezing. They usually spread from person to person, though sometimes people become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.
Symptoms of flu include:
· Fever
· Headache
· Extreme tiredness
· Dry cough
· Sore throat
· Runny or stuffy nose
· Muscle aches
The best way to prevent the flu is to be immunized against the flu. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommends Influenza vaccination for children 6 months through 18 years of age. Immunizations are available through physicians, public health, and at many local sites. Flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May, so it is not too late to be immunized!
Other ways to help stop the spread of flu viruses:
· Wash hands often
· Stay home when you are sick
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick
· Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
People need to get plenty of sleep and physical activity, drink water and eat good food to help them stay healthy in the winter and all year. Be proactive in protecting your health! Discuss the flu vaccine with your health care provider to determine if it is right for you and your family. For more information, please go to http://www.flu.gov/# or contact your healthcare provider.
