Social Emotional Learning Snapshot!
In SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Class, we have been learning about what bullying behavior is and how to respond to bullying situations. We are using the Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit Curriculum to teach each student to:
Recognize rude, mean, and bullying behaviors
Rude = Accidentally saying or doing something hurtful.
Mean = Saying or doing something to hurt a person on purpose, once or maybe twice.
Bullying = cruel behavior done on Purpose, there is repeated Pattern, and the bully has more Power (3 P’s).
***Note: Behavior definitions adopted from the book “The 8 Keys to End Bullying” by Signe Whitson.
Report bullying to a caring adult
Refuse to do a bullying behavior and to stop bullying happening themselves or others
Be a bystander who helps stop the bullying
And we need your help, too! Get involved in making our school a safe and respectful place by letting us know if you hear about bullying at our school. Make sure your child knows to tell you or someone at school if he or she is being bullied. And give your child the clear message that it is never okay to bully others.
If you have any questions about the Bullying Prevention Unit or the Second Step program, please contact me. For more information on our school’s anti-bullying policy and specific procedures, check our school website or contact the school office. Thank you for helping us make our school a safe, respectful place where everyone can learn.

Music Class Update
Students have been hard at work since the beginning of the school year exploring new and creative ways to perform, create, respond and connect to music. In a typical music class, you will see students actively engaged in activities such as singing, playing instruments, learning to read and write rhythms and melodies, moving/dancing and talking about connections between music and their lives.
Looking forward, students in grades 1-4 will spend most of their music class time in November preparing for their upcoming winter concert on December 1. The students and I are excited to be able to perform again at the beautiful Performing Arts Center at the High School. Later in the month, Kindergarten will also begin to prepare for their concert on December 21 at Dunwiddie.
Health & Safety
Please use the Student Illness Tracking Tool (button below) to determine if students should attend school. Please contact our office if your child is ill or if anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19.
Please remember:
- Students MUST quarantine if there is an individual within your household that has tested positive for COVID-19
- Students MUST quarantine if they exhibit COVID-19 symptoms (according to tracking tool below) unless/until they receive a negative test result, and you can provide those results to the school office or district nurse
- Students MUST quarantine if they are awaiting test results
If your child will at home in quarantine for an extended period of time, please contact your child's teacher directly about school work they can complete at home.
Throughout each school year, we conduct various school safety drills including fire, tornado, medical emergency, and danger/intruder (ALICE). Prior to each drill, teachers and students discuss what to do in the event of an emergency or dangerous situation.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or Joanna Bannon.
Thank you for your continued support!
