1) Hollis' Outlook on Life

In the beginning Hollis is sad and lonely after running away from several foster homes. She has no family . In the end, Hollis is happy to be a part of the Regan family.

2) Talking To The Mustard Lady

In the beginning the Mustard Lady was mean to Hollis and told her that she would have to leave Josie and move to a new foster home. In the end the Mustard Lady was nice to Hollis and let Hollis choose who she wanted as a family.

3) Meeting Steven

In the beginning Hollis was walking alone in the streets dying of thirst . In the end Hollis meets Steven and he invites her in to have a nice cold glass of root beer.

4) The Mountain of Trouble

In the beginning Hollis climbs up a mountain and could not get down. In the end Steven sees her and tries to drive up the mountain, and as he went down he crashed.

5) The Plan

In the beginning the Mustard lady said to Hollis that she needs to meet a new family. In the end Hollis had a plan to go to the Regans summer house in Branches so the Mustard lady won't find her.

6) Talking to Josie

In the beginning Hollis met Josie and saw her carvings and Josie said if Hollis wanted her face carved in a tree, she would have to stay. In the end Hollis stayed for a while.

In the beginning Hollis lived with the stucco woman and she hated her because the stucco woman said mean things to her. In the end she met Josie.
