Principal's Report
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Oakview Elementary School, welcome back to school! In particular, I welcome our new families and trust you will soon discover that Oakview is indeed a "Habitat for Learning!" I would also like to welcome our new employees to the Oakview family. Click here to view our 'Oakview's Newest Members' newsletter to meet our staff.
School-wide Theme
Each year our school adopts a theme that incorporates current happenings at Oakview and promotes a whole-child approach to learning. You may remember last year's 'Positive Connections' theme that combined the roll-out of our Personalized Learning Device initiative and strengthening face-to-face connections. Our theme for the 2019-2020 school year is 'Game Changers'.
The Lazy Days of Summer?
Things were busy at the school this summer! Here's just a few of our summer activities:
Every single air conditioning unit (classrooms as well as rooftop) at Oakview has been replaced with new units during the summer of 2019! This massive HVAC project was overseen by Greenville County Schools and will result in improved air quality and a supportive learning environment for students and staff!
Our incredible Building Services team, led by new Plant Engineer Joe D’Andrea and Head Custodian Eva Seay, cleaned the building (120,000 square feet)!
Faculty and staff participated in dozens of workshops at the annual GCS "Summer Academy". Many of our teachers and administrators presented workshops at Summer Academy, sharing all the amazing things going on at Oakview with others across GCS.
In the front office, GCS continues its efforts to provide a safe school environment with the installation of “storefront” framing at our front desk. This enhancement will prevent unwanted visitors from getting beyond the front desk and back into the building. This project followed an upgrade in our school security camera system which now boasts over 50 cameras both inside and outside the building.
It's been a busy but productive summer at Oakview! Now that things are in place, it's time for another amazing school year. We look forward to changing the game with YOU this year!

Meet-the-Teacher Event
Classroom teachers will call students/parents who were unable to attend Meet-the-Teacher to welcome them to the class. On Friday, August 16, and Monday, August 20, the faculty and staff will be busy making final preparations for the opening of school.
Visitors and Volunteers Guidelines
Parent Backpack
Because Parent Backpack gives you access to important student information and the ability to revise key information, your students' school must verify your identify and proof of custody as a parent or guardian IN PERSON. Items that may be needed for verification: official birth certificate, government issued photo ID, or divorce/separation documents (if applicable). It is only necessary to do this once for the entirety of your child's enrollment in Greenville County Schools.
See page 11 of the district's Connected newsletter for more information.
