The Fantastic Flip
Affordable Housing for All
Who We Are
The fantastic flip is a service aiming to help people who lose their home due to gentrification. We buy for closure homes, and transform them into affordable living spaces, targeted toward people who have been affected by gentrification. The definition of the term gentrification is; "the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displace poor residents." We will work with you to accommodate as many of your needs as possible with a budget that works for you.
Why We're here
We believe everyone should have a home. When areas are made new it's hard to find a new affordable home. Many of these people then become homeless which will affect their life severely. Homelessness can take a huge toll on your health, it can separate families and it can put you in a situation that would make you be more vulnerable to abuse. Our service will help people find a new home and avoid this problem.
The average cost of a 1 bedroom apartment in Mississauga outside of the city center is $983.33 per month and the average rent per month for a 3 bedroom home is $1,496. Although these can vary, this is not affordable for many people when they have other living expenses. The cost to buy a house in Ontario is $446,000 but by buying foreclosure houses you can usually get them for about half price or less. Flipping the house can cost about $37,000 to make it liveable but nice at the same time. The houses we would flip would be detached or semi detached. Detached homes would be rented out to two tenants one in the basement one on the main and upper floor, this will make rent more affordable but accommodations can be made. Rent would be about $500 per month unless we have worked with you to flip a home on your exact budget. $500 per month is about half the price of the average (apartment) so you would have a larger living space for a much lower cost.
Why We're Needed
Homelessness due to gentrification is not only an issue in Mississauga alone, it's a big issue in the entire country of Canada as a whole. At least 200,000 Canadians experience homelessness in any given year, at least 150,000 Canadians a year use a homeless shelter at some point, at least 30,000 Canadians are homeless on any given night. While our service will only decrease homelessness rates slightly at the beginning of the course of our service, we aim to expand and help Canadians across the country in tackling the issue of homelessness, especially due to gentrification. Not only do we want our business to help people find a home but we want to build a community for people going through the same thing where they can build relationships and feel safe.
