33rd Week of School: Highlights for the Week

Heights Highlights, May 15, 2023, Newsletter link: https://www.smore.com/5f2np

The highlights this week are:

1. Tuesday, May 16, 2023, will be the regular minimum day dismissal at 1:34 pm. Please pick up your child(ren) on time if they are not signed up for the after-school program.

2. This is a reminder about the cell phone policy located in the District Parent Student Handbook sent home at the beginning of the year. Cell phones are to be turned off during the school day and kept stored in students' backpacks. Students should not be using cell phones during class, during recess, or during lunch. If your child needs to communicate with you, please remind them to use the office phone by asking the teacher to send them to the office. This is for the safety of everyone as the supervising adults at the school (i.e. teacher, staff, or principal, etc) need to know if your child is ill or having another emergency as soon as it occurs. Phones used during school time will be held in the main office with the principal for parent pick-up.

3. May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In this newsletter, we shared some activities, read-aloud videos, and community events to increase awareness at home.

4. The reDiscover Center will lead Maker Activities with cardboard recyclables in our school Artt Robotics & STEAM Makerspace room for all students one day a week through the end of the year. It is Monday (3rd-5th) Tuesday (TK-2nd) and Wednesday (PAL). SEE PICS SENT IN BY TEACHERS.

5. Otis College of Art & Design is partnered with Westport Heights to provide a Cultural Art-making experience one day a week through June for all of our students on Thursday (PAL-1st) and Friday (2nd-5th). SEE PICS SENT IN BY TEACHERS IN THIS NEWSLETTER.

6. After school students have the ability to sign up for classes through the end of the year happening twice a week. The classes are Dance, Robotics, and STEM Engineering. These classes are being offered to 2nd to 5th-grade students in the after-school program.

7. Monday, May 29, 2023, is Memorial Day. The school will be closed. A reminder will go home with students.

8. Friday, May 16, 2023, is the 163rd Day of School.

9. Please check the Google Calendar in this weekly for field trips this week.

10. Fire Drill on Tuesday, May 16th at 1:10pm. There will be bells for those who are sensitive.

Have a peaceful week.

Kind regards,

J. Hughes
