Black-Out Wallace State

The Lady Trojans face Thompson Friday at 9:00 AM for Regionals at Wallace State University! It will be another "Blackout!" Shirts are still available! Avoid the lines at Wallace on Friday by buying your tickets online! Don't forget to print an extra to turn in on Monday for an excused absence! Be sure to put your first and last name on it!

FFA Yearbook Picture

The FFA Yearbook picture will be taken tomorrow, Thursday, February 18th at 8:00 AM in the center stairwell.

Coach Bell's Biology Class

Scientific testing is going down in Coach Bell's biology class! They tested for glucose, starch, proteins, and lipids! Students learned that all living things contain organic macromolecules!

Baseball

The HG Baseball Team battled in the cold last night, but got the first win of the season! Congratulations to the team and coaches! The Trojans will take on the Bucks at home 4:30 PM! Don't miss this event!

Dinner & Play at HG

The HGHS Theatre Department is presenting a delightful dinner and hilarious play tomorrow night in the Blackbox Theater at 7:00 PM! There are only ten tickets left! See Ms. Abercrombie for the last tickets!

HG Construction

HG Construction is conducting some general maintenance on the school's adaptive bike. Also, they are making some props for the theater department! Way to go, Trojans!

Junior Optimist Club

The Junior Optimist Club is "rolling" in the new year with a toilet paper drive for Manna House! The toilet paper drive starts today! The Junior Optimist Club is encouraging Freshman to bring in their rolls of toilet paper today and tomorrow, Sophomores February 19th, Juniors February 23rd, and Seniors February 25th. Toilet paper can be dropped off in Mrs. Thompson's room N133 or Mrs. Braduaway's room C112. Thank you for supporting the Optimist Club and Manna House!

2016 Xi Omicron Chapter Scholarship

Each year Xi Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated awards three scholarships to deserving students in the Huntsville City and Madison County community. The John L. Cashin, Sr. Scholarships are granted annually to graduating seniors who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and in the community. Please take a moment to review the instructions and application requirements within the attached files. Applications for 2016 scholarships are now being accepted and the deadline is Friday, April 15th, 2016.

Alabama F.A.M.E. AMT Program

Please take a moment to find out more about the Alabama F.A.M.E Advanced Manufacturing Technician Program (AMT) if you haven't already. Click here to read more information and watch an informative video about the program. The deadline to apply is April 17. The online application can be found here.

AOD Federal Credit Union Scholarship

AOD Federal Credit Union has established a scholarship to recognize and reward young AOD members for their scholastic achievements upon graduation from high school. AOD will award fifteen scholarships and up to three of which may be awarded to an individual with special needs valued at $1,000 each to graduating seniors who have been members of AOD for a minimum of one year. Additionally, in of honor of Ken Reid, Board Member Emeritus, the Mr. Ken Reid Engineering Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded to one student who is pursuing an engineering degree. Scholarships will be paid at the beginning of the student's freshman year and will be issued directly to the college, university, community college, technical or vocational school of the student's choice. Applicants will be required to submit the application package to AOD. Click here for the application, and it must be returned to AOD no later than February 15th. Mail applications to AOD Federal Credit Union, Attn: Scholarships P.O. Box 608 Bynum, AL 36253. The 2016 scholarship application deadline for AOD Federal Credit Union is approaching. The deadline is coming up February 15, 2016. The 2016 Scholarship Application is available on their website at www.aodfcu.com.

Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award

Are you a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17 who exhibits leadership qualities as a volunteer in your community or school? Who sees challenges instead of obstacles? Hope instead of despair? Then you may be eligible for a Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award which includes recognition at a luncheon and a monetary award of $300. The deadline for all submittals is March 4, 2016. Please see attached details. Applications will be judged and notification given to all applicants by March 10, 2016. The winner will be honored at a luncheon on March 30, 2016.

Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form into Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.


Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend
- Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.

1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of the school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.

2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.

3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.

First Priority/FCS
meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Black Box Theatre. All students are welcome to attend.

PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.


Recycle:
Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.


Reward Cards:
Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit:
Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.

(Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag, just stop by the main office to pick one up.
