Our school e-News will continue to provide you with timely information as we bring our 20-21 year to a close as well as information for summer and welcoming in our 2021-2022 school year:
Some highlights in this week's e-News:
Today is the last day to purchase Schim spirit wear for gym class.
Information regarding summer school is provided below. Registration ends April 30.
Please note that due to the bad weather we had in February, students will have school on Monday, April 26. It is no longer a school holiday for students as it is a designated Bad Weather Makeup Day.
We will continue to follow wearing our masks and practicing social distancing at school so that we may all continue to be happy and healthy.
Gr 5 Parents: Schim PE Swag Store
Schim PE Coaches:
The PE Department is opening back up the GANDY INK store for our (optional) PE uniform purchases for the 2021-2022 school year.
The attached PE Swag is completely OPTIONAL, but the color choices for PE uniform are not when it comes to a normal school year!
For this reason, we try our best to offer you a convenient and stylish option for your PE uniform attire!
If all goes as planned, starting in August, PE students would need to be dressed out in a school appropriate white top and one of the following options for bottoms: black shorts/leggings/sweatpants.
This would be the daily PE uniform attire that they would change into during the class period. We also added a hoodie option if you are looking for a cool, or should we say "WARM", way to sport your PANTHER PRIDE!
The PE Department Gandy Ink store closes on Friday, April 23rd at 10AM.
Your PE swag will be delivered before the end of the school year.
Please select MATHEWS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL as your campus delivery option and make sure to write the student’s name in the section that says, "Give to _______ at Schimelpfenig MS".
Your items will then be delivered to Mathews by a Schimelpfenig PE teacher.
THANKS and GO PANTHERS!

SUMMER SCHOOL
Registration closes April 30. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
4th Grade Symphony!
We are 'going' to the Symphony!
4th grade students will attend a virtual field trip to hear the Plano Symphony Orchestra during their music class the week of May 3rd.
This virtual field trip is the culmination of our study on the orchestra in music class.
Students are encouraged to dress up and wear nice clothing on the day they attend music class that week, similar to what might be worn on picture day or to a church service, wedding, or other nice event.
Our Mathews Mavs will represent us well. We are reviewing what is appropriate behavior and audience etiquette during the virtual field trip. We are excited for this opportunity to hear the Plano Symphony Orchestra perform!

Calendar Update – Bad Weather Make-Up Day
Plano ISD will use Monday, April 26, as the designated inclement weather day for the weather-related closure on Thursday, February 11. Originally slated as a student holiday and staff development/work day, school will now be in session on April 26. TEA has approved waivers for the additional weather closures during Winter Storm Uri, so no additional make-up days are required.

COVID PROTOCOL UPDATES
As always we will continue to practice social distancing in class, halls, and on our bus. We will continue to practice handwashing and wearing our masks. Desk partitions are in place between desks as well. Thorough cleaning and disinfecting also contributes to our Face to Face school environment to be a safe place to be. To date we have not had a student transmit the Covid-19 virus at school to another student.
In regards to quarantining during the second semester we will be looking at the following protocols in determining which students need to be quarantined; rather than the entire class:
Changes Regarding Quarantine
The close contact definition will change to allow those who are ‘properly masking’ to avoid being sent out on quarantine… proper masking is defined as wearing a multi-layer face covering (layers that can be pulled apart – so not gaiters that are one layer, one-layer masks, etc.) that fits around the nose / chin. For more information on the safest masks for your child to wear:
CDC guidance: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html
The quarantine period for close contacts will be revised – meaning that a student/staff member who is identified as a close contact will only have to stay out for 10 days instead of 14. The gold standard is still 14 days, but in an effort to get kids back in class and staff back to work, CDC is allowing the 10-day return. At the 10 day mark the person must be symptom free before they can return and continue to monitor for symptoms through day 14; if they develop symptoms, they will remain on quarantine.
This message includes updates on the COVID-19 response from CDC. The COVID-19 Outbreak is a rapidly evolving situation and information will be updated as it becomes available.
