Training requirements for this job!

Public kindergarten and elementary school teachers need to have at least a bachelor`s degree in elementary education. Some states may require you to major in a certain area. Such as math or science. You typically have to enroll in a preparation program to teach you how to be prepared for the job. You may also need a course in child pychology depending what your major requires. You need to participate in feildwork, such as student teaching. During your time of student teaching, you need to work with a mentor teacher and get experience teaching students in a classroom setting. The time varies by state. But the longer the time you have, will allow you to fee comfortable with the students and their behaviors in the classroom.

Communication skills: Teachers must be able to speak to the children, in a caring manner, but also with a stern voice when needed. You also need to be able to communicate with other teachers and be willing to talk about issues that you may be having, other teachers may have more experience or could help you plan ahead! You also need to be able to speak to parents and administration. If a problem occurs with a child, you may need to take it further and be willing to talk to their parents.


Instruction skills: You must be able to explain new ideas and unfamiliar topics in a clear and concise way that will work to keep the kids`s attention.


Writing skills: You must be able to write progress reports and write notes home in an understanding manner.


Creativity: You need to be able to incorporate the children in your lessons. You must be able to change your lessons or come up with new lessons for each student`s learning needs.


People skills: You need to be able to engage parents and build healthy relationships with the children. You also need to be able to talk to faculty to create a quality learning environment for the students.

Why may I choose this career?

I would choose this career because I love children and always have growing up. I love to be creative and come up with great things for children to do. I have always been patient with children and can often handle their behaviors. If needed, I can be stern but in a loving manner. I have much experience with children of all ages, and currently babysit. I babysit babies to school age children. I would definitely love a career being with children all day. No matter what you do or how crazy you act, children love you for it! To them, we are their role model and they look for adults that they can feel safe with!

What does a day in the life of this career look like? Planning, disciplining, being on time, being creative and keeping the children`s attention, helping a child out and teaching each one in their own unique ways, and being stern when needed but remembering to always be loving while being stern!
