A Letter From the Principal

Hello, Northwest families! First trimester is quickly coming to a close. Please be checking your student’s grades in PowerSchool to help them finish strong. We will be switching to second trimester schedules on Wednesday, November 20. If you have questions about grades or assignments, please contact your student’s teachers.

There is a lot of important information in this month’s newsletter. Please take special note of the news from the health office. The district policy requires students to stay home with a fever of 100 degrees or higher. Students are also required to be fever and vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school. Following these rules will help your student be more successful in the classroom and help to prevent the spread of germs.

Second trimester we will be starting a new opportunity called Career Talk Tuesdays! We are welcoming family and community members to our school to share about their jobs and the educational journey it took to get there. Talks will be on Tuesdays from 10:30-10:55 in the theater. Those interested in sharing their careers, can sign up here! Students will be able to sign up to join the talk during homeroom. We are hoping to have a wide variety of careers featured so our students can learn about many different opportunities.

November is a time for thanks and gratitude. I want to say thank you for a wonderful group of students we have this year! They are kind and polite and want to do well in school. Although not every day is perfect, they strive to be better each day and learn from their mistakes -- which is what junior high is all about! I am also very grateful for the amazing teachers and staff that put their whole heart into all that they do! We are all so lucky to work with such a caring and fun group of people. I am also thankful for all of the supportive parents who are always willing to help out with anything that we ask and are there for their students every day. Are you thankful for someone this year? I challenge you to send them a message and let them know! Nothing is more motivating than a kind word. Spread kindness like confetti!

I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving! Please enjoy the time with your family and friends. If you have any questions or if I can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you!

Mascot Change!

At last Tuesday’s school board meeting, the junior high administration at Northwest Junior High and North Central Junior High informed the school board of our proposal to change mascots at both junior highs. After some questions and discussions, the plan to move forward with this change was agreed upon. Northwest will change from the Vikings to the Trojans and North Central will change from the Knights to the Lightning. The plan is to better align with our feeder high school schools and enhance the comradery and culture of the 7-12 experience for our secondary students. We will be transitioning the Viking logo out during this school year. We will have opportunities for parents, students and staff to buy Northwest Trojan gear in the future. Go Trojans!

Career Talk Tuesdays

Northwest Junior High is starting Career Talk Tuesdays second trimester! This is an opportunity for students to sign up to listen to a community member to share about their career and educational journey to get there. Please use this Sign Up Genius to sign up for a time slot. Times are each Tuesday from 10:30-10:55. Space in the theater will be available for presentations. We would love to have a wide variety of parents and community members share their stories! If you have any questions, please contact the office at 688-1060.
