Do You Hear What I Hear?
Mrs. Palmer's English class is reading a novel entitled, El Deafo. The novel is an autobiography, written by Deaf author, Cece Bell. She is the main character that tells her story of losing her hearing at age 4 and the challenges she faces in learning to adjust to her hearing loss. This week, we had a visit from Dr. Banick, Audiologist. She taught us how to read our audiograms, how the parts of our ears work, about different pitches of sound, and so much more. Did you know you have better hearing than an elephant, but a sheep has better hearing than you? This lesson was a great extension of the novel we are reading in English class, El Deafo. Stay tuned for more fun and interesting lessons in our Deafness Unit.
earth day is everyday
Ms. Blaine's Science students celebrated Earth day this week by exploring the answer to the EQ: How do living things interact with one another in their environment? Students learned about the importance of flowers and the role of bees in pollination, then they re-enacted pollination with a craftivity that had them "pollinate" a partner's flower with a "bee". Another day, students planted kidney or lima beans to place in their classroom greenhouse!
Our virtual students joined in the fun as well!
