BOXES ALL OVER THE CLASSROOM!
We started collecting boxes (Thank you Parents for your help...keep sending boxes) and we put together a nice assortment of empty boxes to use in different activities in the classroom.
This week we spent quite a bit of time exploring different ways you can use a box.
Of course, if you haven’t read the book “Not a Box” by Antoinette Portis then you might not understand that any box you may have around is really not a box…
“Not a Box” by Antoinette Portis is a simply illustrated book about using one’s imagination to consider what else a box could be…
DRAWING BOXES
BOX BRIDGE
Ms. Ginni believes that cardboard boxes are an essential toy for little kids and this week she provided some big boxes for us to use in the block area.
We were really happy to see a different "toy" in this area. We worked together to build a bridge with boxes. When we finished the bridge we used it to move animals from one side of the carpet to the other.
WE ARE GREAT THINKERS!!!
Magnetic Letters To Write Our Names!
Ms. Ginni printed our names on a card then we worked with her to find the correlating letters and spell our names using magnetic letters.
This was not an easy activity for us but WE DID IT!
We are playing and working with letters every week to improve our Literacy and language skills.
Pirate Treasure Box: Fine Motor Fun
Digging for TREASURE…what could be more exciting than that for us? While working on our Fine-Motor skills!)
Ms. Ginni gave us some tweezers to work on the treasure box that was in the play dough center.
We had so much fun digging and finding all the treasures in this super-soft and sparkly playdough. We especially enjoyed pulling out the precious gems and counting them.
FEED THE BOX MONSTER!
We got tweezers and little animals to feed the funny and hungry box monster. We practiced a lot with this game during the week because Ms. Ginni said that next week we will use numbers and letters to feed the monster.
She will say a letter or a number in a goofy monster voice and we will search for it, then we will feed it to the monster by placing it in his mouth. Chomp!
WHAT IS A KINDNESS TREE?
...Because we haven't really taught our children anything if we haven't taught them to be kind.
Here is the basic idea of the Kindness Tree:
- We have in our classroom a bare tree to which we are going to add hearts over time. We had a class discussion about kindness and Ms. Ginni said that even someone very small can make a difference with a small kind act!
- Ms. Ginni explained that the hearts will represent acts of kindness that happen in our classroom. As we grow in kindness toward one another, the tree will become a beautiful symbol of all the good we have added to the world and to each other!
- In order to avoid this becoming a reward system (in which the reward so often becomes more important than the act itself!), she explained that most of the time, hearts will be added in secret.

CREATIVE BOX ART!
CELEBRATING PANAMA IN PK 3.1
We all live in this beautiful country and we wanted to learn more about the national dress "La Pollera" and other traditional things from Panama.
Ms. MariCarmen explained that during the month of November we celebrate Panama's birthday with street parades and dancing with the national dress.
Ms. Lizzy showed us all the details of shirt that she was wearing and told us more about the necklaces that panamanian women use when they want to wear a Pollera.
Then we went on a small parade around the elementary school like the panamanian marching bands using instruments... we were really excited!!!
The final touch of this activity were the panamanian treats that we had in the classroom (empanaditas and Arroz con leche)
THANK YOU MS. MARICARMEN AND MS. LIZZY FOR SHARING WITH US!!!!
