SCIS Principal Newsletter

May 19, 2023

Hello Sloan Creek Families!

It has been a very busy and fun week. 6th grade leadership awards was a great way to kick off the week. Field day was so much fun, fine arts performances and shows have been amazing and our dress up days have been comical. We are definitely taking time to have fun before summer begins.

As a reminder, students will receive awards in their homeroom on the last day. This is a great opportunity for students to be celebrated for their academic achievements. They will have certificates to bring home, too.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Lovejoy Proud,

Courtney Halpin

Attendance Information

Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).

Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences.

WSMS Notes from the Nurse

7th grade Immunizations

Every 7th grade student, currently enrolled or newly enrolled, must present an updated immunization record to attend school in the fall. There are two required vaccines that are given at age 11 that Lovejoy ISD must have a record of before the semester begins. Without the proper documentation of required vaccinations or a valid medical or conscientious exemption form, students will NOT be allowed to start 7th grade. It is a Texas State Law that your child receives the proper immunizations in order to attend school.

  • The current required boosters for students entering 7th grade are:

1. TDaP (Tetanus) booster within the last 5 years

2. Meningococcal/Meningitis (MCV4) given on or after the 11th birthday

Parents must provide an updated copy of your 7th grade student’s immunizations by August 7, 2023. Class schedules will be held until shot records are received. Beat the line in August, and turn them in before May 26th.

Please contact WSMS Nurse with any questions.
