Our Mission
Nurturing and inspiring a love of learning and providing each child with an education designed to advance achievement and confidence.
From the Principal
St. Mary’s Families,
Mt. Angel School District has one goal; By June of 2022, all students will be on track to graduate and be prepared with a plan for life beyond high school.
To accomplish this goal, our schools focus on and monitor growth in 8 areas we call “indicators.” One of those indicators is regular attendance. By 2022, we want to have systems that support 92% of Mt. Angel School District students to attend school regularly.
A student is considered a “regular attender” if they attend at least 90% of school days.
Research shows that missing 10% of school, or about 18 days in a school year, negatively affects a students’ academic performance.
We also know that when a student improves their attendance rate, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
Throughout the year, we monitor student attendance and look for opportunities to support students and families who may struggle to attend school regularly. We share information, ask for feedback, and look for ways to keep students excited to come to school.
Through these efforts, we increased the percentage of students regularly attending school at St. Mary’s from 81% in 2016-17 to 85% in 2017-18. In 2018-29 our rate dipped slightly to 84%. We are pleased with the progress we are making toward our goal of 92% by 2022!
Here’s how families can help:
- Keep students home when they are sick and contagious.
- Schedule appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
- Schedule vacations during regularly scheduled breaks and holidays.
- Let your teacher or the counselor know if your student is struggling to want to come to school.
- Contact the office whenever your student is absent
St. Mary’s will continue to:
- Build positive relationships with students and families.
- Recognize and celebrate regular and improved attendance.
- Monitor and keep families informed about student progress, including attendance.
- Provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage in classrooms and in the community.
If you have any questions about attendance, you are welcome to contact me, your child’s teacher, or our school counselor, Lucas Anderson.
Have a great weekend!
Katie Voss, Principal
Changes in Pick-Up Plans
When your child’s pick-up plans change, please send a note in the morning directly to his/her teacher. If your child’s plans for going home change during the day, notify the office by 2pm. The office and classrooms at the end of the day can be very busy, and as much as possible we ask that you avoid picking up students during the last 30 minutes of the day without advance notice.
