Shrove Tuesday FEB 16th
Please note we will not be serving pancakes this year for Shrove Tuesday on Feb., 16th due to Covid-19. But please note that this is an important time in the Church calendar. Please celebrate Shrove Tuesday with your Family on Tuesday Feb. 16th. Make it a family event by having Pancakes for supper and letting your children know the meaning behind Shrove Tuesday. THANK YOU
What is Shrove Tuesday?
It all begins with Shrove Tuesday (also known as Pancake Day) which is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent and it is traditional on this day to eat pancakes. This is the season in which Christians get ready for the sacrifices and fasting ahead. Christians make a special point to review and modify their Lenten plans and also focus on their lives, asking God what improvements they can make in order to move closer to Him.
Why are Pancakes eaten on Shrove Tuesday?
Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.
When is Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)?
Shrove Tuesday is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday and is therefore the final day before the commencement of Lent, leading up to Easter Sunday. Shrove Tuesday always falls 47 days before Easter Sunday. This year it is on Tuesday, February 16.

Very Cold Weather Forecast
The health and safety of students is a paramount consideration in the organization of recess/outdoor activities. Administration and Teachers will take into consideration the following when making decisions regarding recess/outdoor activities during inclement weather that may result from the following conditions or combination of conditions:
1.1 Continuous rain;
1.2 Extreme wind, and/or
1.3 Extreme cold.
The suggested school division guideline is that students do not go outside if the temperature is - 25 C or colder. This suggested guideline is at the discretion of school administrators and teachers as part of their consideration for determining whether recess will be inside or outside.
Due to having very young children at Madonna, we usually use -20 C with wind as our guiding temperature to keep children in. Some teachers may take kids out for a shorter break outside if they have the proper clothing when it is -20 C with wind chill.
Please send your child in WARM winter clothes: winter parka, ski pants, winter boots, toque, scarf, mittens, gloves, etc... as your child may be outside on cold days.
