June 14, 2021 Regular Board Meeting

The Board of Education provides a "Board Meeting Summary" after each Board meeting. The summary includes a brief description of the main topics and action items. These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items. NOTE: In the interest of safety for Board and staff members, as well as the school community, the meeting format was adjusted. Due to current Executive Order requirements social distancing guidelines were in effect.

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability Dr. Katie McCluskey presented a video featuring children’s author Jim Gill who worked with our PreK students to create a video book “May there always be…” Mr. Gill joined the Board meeting via zoom to share his experience working with our students. Dr. McCluskey presented the Board members with the book created by the PreK students.

Student Board Member Report | watch

A Student Feedback Report was presented by student Board members Asiya Ahmed and Blake Noble. Ms. Ahmed and Ms. Noble created a form for Hadley 8th grade students asking them about diversity and how it can be improved. They reviewed student responses and suggestions for the future. Board members asked questions and discussed how to use the student feedback. Click here for the presentation.

Social Emotional Learning | watch

Director of Student Services Laurel O’Brien presented information about social emotional learning, behavioral and mental health curriculum and support. She talked about the inclusionary principles in practice across the district and explained the different tiers of support. She also explained the difference between 504 plans and Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Another part of the presentation focused on the district’s crisis prevention and intervention team training and plans. Board members asked questions and engaged in conversation about the information presented. Click here for the presentation.

Board of Education Book Study Discussion | watch

Secretary Jess Buttimer led the Board through a discussion about several chapters in a book that the Board is reading together as a professional development activity.
