Tweet of the Week--The 30 Second Assessment
I am taking a Catholic School Leadership class from Creighton again this fall. It's an online class that requires quite a bit of written reflection. But, at times the instructor will allow us to videotape our reflections and submit them that way. Although I really don't like looking at myself on camera ("Do I really look like that? How old is that shirt? Is that mole getting larger?"), I do appreciate the fact that I can jot down a few talking points and orally give my answers rather than having to type it, use proper citations, spellcheck, proofread, etc.
In addition, we have to read and respond to at least 2 of our classmates' responses. For me, it's a LOT better to watch a classmates' presentation on video and then respond to it, instead of wading through so much text.
You and your students may think so, too!
Don't forget to read the comments after the article. They are from teachers just like you!
November 2--School of Faith, Catholic Schools Week, & Data Study
In the afternoon, I'd like the Catholic Identity committee to begin the planning of Catholic Schools Week. We have multiple copies of the CSW marketing handbook which is full of great ideas. We would also like to find some time in November to get our students' input about what they'd like to see during CSW, too.
If you are not involved with CSW planning, we will meet with a couple of staff developers and start to review some of the data we've collected about our school--demographics of students/staff, test scores, opinion surveys, and more. This work is being done to help begin preparations for our next Advanc-Ed Accreditation visit, which is scheduled for April of 2017.
I'd like to start the afternoon session at 1 PM in the Parish Center and you will be on your own for lunch on this day.
Your building principal will be getting you more information next week about the groups you'll be in on the afternoon of the 2nd.
Servant Leader of the Week
Marlee went out of her way and helped the student adjust to a new situation and made the transition smoother for her. Thanks for stepping up to the plate, Marlee!
Servant Leader of the Week II
Pam and her husband, Jerry, were one of five couples who stepped up to chair the Parish Festival Committee. Through their hard work, our Parish Festival grows and gets better every year! Not only is the day of the festival physically and mentally exhausting, but the planning and preparation also can be just as draining! Thank you, Pam (and Jerry!)
I'd like to feature at least one "Servant Leader of the Week" in each Friday Focus--and then also get it on our Twitter and Facebook pages. But I will need your help. Please "nominate" any potential Servant Leaders you see (could be yourself, another teacher, a secretary, lunch provider or custodian, student, parent, or other stakeholder in our school and parish). Please email me your nomination, along with a couple sentences of "WHY?" they'd be a good choice. And a picture, please!
