Fat-Free or Normal Fat Foods
By: Kalin Olson
Purpose Statement
Research
Fats and oils are a part of a healthy diet. Fats can impact our heart and arteries in positive and negative ways, depending on what kind of fats you eat. To avoid bad fats, eat plenty of fish, vegetables, and nuts. Also, make sure you know your limits on fats, salts, and sugars. Be sure to prepare meals with a small amount of salt, and look at nutrition labels on food for low saturated, trans fat, and sodium amounts.
Calories provide the amount of energy you get from eating a serving size. It depends on the number of servings you consume to how many calories you have gained. Serving sizes make it easier to compare similar foods. If you eat 2 serving sizes, it doubles the amount of everything in the food.
Hypothesis
My hypothesis is you can taste a difference in fat and fat free foods. I base my hypothesis on the foods have different things in them so they won’t taste the same.
Materials
people
Fat free foods
Normal foods
IV- Non-fat and regular fat foods
DV- If you can taste the difference
CV- people testing,
CV- Fat free and normal fat foods
Procedures
Get 3 people to test the experiment
Place fat-free and normal fat foods in different containers, so the people you are testing don’t know which one is which
Have people taste the different foods to see if they can taste the difference (have them tell you if they can taste the difference)
Record observations and their final answers
- Repeat steps 2-4 two more times with 1 other food
Observations Log/Data
Its hard to taste the difference between foods
Different people have different facial expresions when they taste food
Results
The original purpose of this experiment was to see if you can taste the difference between fat free and normal fat foods. The results of the experiment were that you can taste the difference between fat free and normal fat foods.
Conclusion
My hypothesis was you can taste a difference in fat and fat free foods. I base my hypothesis on the foods have different things in them so they won’t taste the same. The results indicate that this hypothesis should be considered accurate. Based on the results of this experiment I can conclude that if you want fat-free food, there is a difference in taste between normal food. If I were to conduct this science fair project again I would try different foods with different people and have them see which one is better.
