FSA Testing is Complete!
I am so proud of all of the scholars for their hard work during testing. I know that they did their best. However, testing being over does not mean that school is over! We will spend the remainder of the year reviewing and solidifying our understanding of the fourth grade standards and introducing some of the fifth grade standards.
Fluency
According the the Florida Standards, each grade level has a specific fluency standard that must be met. Mathematical fluency is defined as "having efficient, flexible, and accurate methods for computing". This fluency includes the use of strategies such as mental math, paper and pencil methods, and the use of technology. The scholars should have mastered their multiplication and division facts in third grade, and in fourth grade, they should be able to fluently add and subtract multi-digit numbers.
We will complete a weekly multiplication test in which students are aiming to "master" each set of facts (0-12). Each set of facts mastered will earn the scholars another topping on an ice cream sundae. Please ensure that scholars are practicing their multiplication facts EVERY NIGHT for 10-15 minutes. Please be on the lookout for a letter with your scholars' individual baseline assessment and a "fluency log". This should serve as their homework for the remainder of the year.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Science
Earth's Structures
This week, we wrapped up our chapter on speed and motion. We will move on to learning about Earth's various structures. Scholars will learn about different types of rocks and how they are formed, as well as various ways to describe and categorize them.
