A Terrific Week Before Spring Break & Another Right After!
Welcome back! I hope your family had a wonderful time this past week during Spring Break. I can't wait to hear about all the adventures that were enjoyed together!
Prior to break, we had a wonderful opportunity to walk over to Kirkwood High School and experience some great read-alouds with the Child Development students. Each semester, we're fortunate to have one Child Development student also support our learning experiences in class, once a week. It's also very neat to be able to support the aspiring teachers as they begin their possible future careers in education.
Prior to break, we did not identify a Leader of the Week due to the time off. However, this Friday, we will announce our newest recipient. We did celebrate two of our classmates though, on their wonderful demonstrations of Keysor Pride. Way to go to Jonah and Simone for their outstanding work! Looking forward to seeing all friends doing their best to show their Keysor Pride during our week back!

Monthly Counselor Visits!
Each month we are able to receive wonderful lessons provided by our school counselor, Jill Gatcombe. The lessons help share with children strategies for coping, showing understanding and overall social skill development. Prior to break, the lesson shared ideas and visualizations about how our emotions may change, using the analogy of color changing water. As our lessons occur, more evidence is shown that the children are learning about an array of ways to handle and honor their emotions each day.
The NED Show: Coming to Keysor this Friday!
This Friday afternoon, Keysor will be lucky to have the amazing NED Show visit! Not only will the kids see and learn some AMAZING yo-yo tricks along the way, they'll learn about life skills including to: Never Give Up, Encourage Others and Do Your Best! There will also be flyers sent home regarding a purchasing opportunity as well. So, please be sure to check your child's red folder this week!
Around the World in one day!
Prior to break, our class took a vacation of their own, as they traveled the world to five continents and a country within each. Much was learned and enjoyed in Asia, Europe, South America, Australia and Africa. I hope you were able to read through their passport, sharing their traveling adventures and what they enjoyed most!
Sight Words and Sound Focus
Our sight words this week are: oil, most, very, thing, hour
The children will also participate in learning lessons about the 'oy' sound being created by the two letter combinations of 'oi' and 'oy'. Examples of this sound would include: boil, soy, coil, joy.

Writing Workshop: Writing Reviews
As we move into our new quarter together, the children will begin their week with trying out writing reviews. Their topic of interest will be their Spring Break joys and how they felt about the time away. Should it have been longer, shorter or was it enough? Most importantly, they will need to share their opinions and reasons why. Can't wait to see what they come up with!
Data: Graphing, Inventory, Surveys
As we move into our newest quarter, the children are also beginning their new unit of study of graphing. This unit will encompass much of the work that we have done all year with recording our tooth losses, weather and favorite moments. As the children have practice gathering data from surveying one another, they will then move into taking their data and sharing their results via graph form.
Economics: Occupations, Consumers vs. Producers
All hands will definitely be on deck as the children will be moving into learning about occupations of our world. We'll begin the week thinking about all the jobs they know, ones they want to learn about and if they are a consumer or producer occupation. If you would like to join us to share about your occupation, we would love to learn about your expertise during the next few weeks! Please be sure to send an email and we can coordinate times.
