Week Twenty: February 8 - February 12
Weekly Curriculum
In celebration of Black History Month, Kindergarten will continue our focus on Black history within all of our subject areas. From the first day of school, we have been actively conscious of the importance of creating an inclusive community that celebrates diversity every single school day. Our curriculum and daily discussions revolve around educating our students on the past and present impacts that all races and cultures have had within US history. We look forward to reading and discussing books by Black authors and about Black protagonists this month while educating our students about MLK's positive impact on history. If you would like to incorporate some of our books into your own home libraries, please click on the links below.
During ELA, we will also focus on the short "i" sound by reviewing the short "i" sound, finding words with the short "i" sound, and creating words with the short "i" sound. We will continue with our Daily Reading Log this week. This independent reading can be done during asynchronous learning times. We will also explore letter writing in preparation for our Valentines Day celebration on Friday, when we will write love letters to someone special in our lives (mom, dad, dog, etc.).
For Math, we will study weight and capacity. For Big Ideas, we will study bodies of water. We will incorporate hands on exploration throughout the week to better understand landforms and the measurement of landforms.
During asynchronous learning times, we will encourage your child to practice previously introduced content using the resources below. We have included these for you as well if you would like to review these concepts with your child. If you have any questions, please let us know!
Last but not least, we want to reinforce our mantra of the power of play. Kindergarten is a time of great academic development. It is also a time when children form and solidify connections with their peers, develop social skills, and strengthen their ability to communicate their observations and thoughts. Play is an integral part of our day, as it nurtures social and emotional development. During this week at home, we encourage the balance of academic development with social and emotional development through play.

Please remember to send your child in with an extra mask, a water bottle, snack and their headphones.
We understand that this is a challenging time for everyone. If you need anything at all, please let us know. We are here for you!
