Curriculum Highlights

Math: Look for Unit 2 Tests to come home this week. Unit 3 is working on geometry and measurement. We will use centimeter rulers to measure line segments and draw shapes. Practice with a centimeter ruler measuring various objects is encouraged.

Reminder to continue to practice addition and subtraction math facts.

Reading: We've spent the last few weeks in our Character Study. As readers, we not only learned abut characters in our books, we learned from our characters by asking, "What has my character learned that will help me in my life?" We will continue to talk about the important parts of their stories by paying close attention to the strong feelings/emotions of their characters.

Writing: Jonathan London and his Froggy books have been the rave in our classroom. After studying his work we are writing our own realistic fiction stories. Next, we will use mentor texts to understand how to express opinions on a variety of topics which will help us to develop our own opinion writing pieces.

Social Studies: Who would have thought exploring a map of our local community would be such a hit! Your kiddos loved locating their streets as well as their friend's streets. They were all amazed how close they live to each other. We will learn about transportation in our community as well as to compare our community to another community.

Science: We are wrapping up our Pebbles, Sand, and Silt unit. We will focus on vocabulary and science readings during the remainder of our time.
