George Washington 1732-1799
He was the famous general of the continental,army and first president of the US. He was also called commander and chief. He died at the age of 67 in Mount Vernon,VA. He was chosen for commander in 1775. He was also in office from 1789-1797.
The Surrender at Yorktown,VA Oct.19,1781
This event happened when General Charles Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington. The British, Patriots, and the French battled for days. The French had a Naval Fleet in the water with troops on the ground fighting with the Patriots. The Colonists were happy to here that the patriots have won. The King and the Colonists agreed on the Treaty of Paris.
