High Point Academy Updates
January 8th, 2023
Husky Family,
It was so wonderful to see our students last week! We hope that each of you had a wonderful break over the past few weeks. The opportunity to relax and celebrate with those who are closest to you is wonderful, and for us, it is exciting when we get to come back together after such a long time apart.
To provide more frequent updates and information, you can expect to receive a weekly newsletter starting this week. My hope is to reduce the length and provide more timely information to you about all that is occurring at High Point.
Looking forward to the spring semester with a focus on rigorous academics, a safe/welcoming learning environment, and making learning meaningful to all of our students.
Have a great week!
Meredith

Teaching and Learning Highlights
What we love about this resource:
- It is aligned with all the most up-to-date research on literacy, and it meets both Colorado and National requirements as an exemplary resource.
- It integrates rigorous standards, with the joy of learning, and the importance of making learning meaningful and relevant for students. There are lots of opportunities for students to apply their learning to real-world situations!
- It is founded on the principles of diversity and inclusion-assuring the experiences that our students have are reflective of many perspectives.
- Social and emotional learning is integrated into daily lessons.
If you are interested in examining these resources or have questions about what students are learning, please plan to join the mornings with Meredith on Tuesday, January 24th, at 8:00 am. Materials will be available for you to review and we can talk about why we are making this change!
Building a Positive, Supportive and Safe Climate and Culture
This focus is especially needed for our students in middle school. As you may have heard, prior to break there was an incident between two of our 7th-grade students, leaving one student harmed both physically and emotionally. These behaviors are not and will not be tolerated! We encourage families to talk with their students about bullying, including cyberbullying and to report anything that they see so we can work as a team to keep our students safe.
As we enter this new year, we are recommitting to our anti-bullying policy, and encourage each of you to review and discuss what is expected at school so that all students are safe. You can find our anti-bullying policy located in the family handbook here. (Starting on page 30)

Staffing Updates
New Hires:
- Natalie Haggard will begin as the permanent 2nd-grade teacher, in Mrs. Epps's class on January 9th. We are excited about the knowledge, passion, commitment, and positivity that she is bringing to the classroom and cannot wait for her to start.
- Mr. Lukas Elmore will now serve as the tech teacher. Mr. Elmore is excited to have students learn to type and use computers, get hands-on by taking apart computers to learn how they work, and begin to use some of the great technology available at HPA like the 3D printers!
We are currently searching for 5th and 7th-grade literacy teachers. We are hopeful to fill the 7th-grade position with an internal candidate (information coming soon)! While we search for someone that meets our high expectations for a teacher, Mrs. Stolte will be covering the 5th-grade literacy class, continuing with the same content and rhythms that students were accustomed to with Mrs. Rose.
