Dear South School Families:
As we head into March, we will be administering Illinois standardized tests. Eighth grade students will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment on Wednesday, March 1st, and we will administer the Illinois Assessment of Readiness to the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students March 14th-16th. We will be following a modified schedule on testing days. Please make sure your child is well rested, eats a healthy breakfast, and comes to school with headphones as well as a fully charged Chromebook.
We are very excited to welcome guest author Maria Scriven who will be speaking to South's sixth grade class on March 2nd! Please see the section below for further details.
Thank you to everyone who donated books during our Bernie’s Book Bank drive which took place from February 6-24, 2023. We collected well over 750 books for young children.
Please make sure you participate in the 22-23 5Essentials Survey for parents. See the information and link below to take the survey. Thank you to all of the parents who took the survey over the weekend. As you know, we need at least 20% of our families to participate for South to be able to receive our complete results. At this point, we are very close. 134 (18%) of 845 families have completed the survey. We still need at least 36 parents to respond to reach our goal. Thank you for taking the time to complete this important survey!
Thank you to the PTA for the delicious catered dinner from Mago Grill & Cantina for all of our teachers during parent-teacher conferences. We truly appreciate the generosity of our PTA, and feel very lucky for everything they do for our staff and students. If you are not part of the PTA, please get involved by joining us at the next Zoom PTA meeting on March 16th. See the PTA section below for more detailed information.
Please remember that students are not allowed to be texting during the school day. If your child feels sick, they need to communicate with their teacher to go see the nurse. The nurse will then assess the student and call home as necessary.
Finally, we want to wish our volleyball teams and wrestlers good luck this week at their regional and sectional events.
Go Cardinals!
