What's Heating Up at Holy Spirit

December 14-18

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever - Hebrews 13:8-

Third Week of Advent

Gospel Reading John 1:6-8,19-28

John gives testimony that he is preaching and baptizing in order to prepare for the coming of another.

Today is the third week of Advent known as Gaudete (Gow-DAY-tay) Sunday. Gaudete means “rejoice”. We rejoice that the birth of the Lord is near! We light the two violet candles and the rose coloured candles today. Because we are celebrating the coming of the Lord, the liturgical colours at mass include rose. In today’s reading, we hear John the Baptist proclaiming the coming of the messiah.

Tell Me the Story: John the Baptist

Four Weeks of Advent

As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, we invite you to help us support those in need. Each week we light a candle on the Advent wreath to encourage weekly thoughts and themes of charity. We invite you to read below to learn more about how to support the worthwhile causes we are championing this Advent season. We will also be holding spirit days throughout December and invite students to bring $2 which will be donated to Valeda House which is part of Catholic Social Services.

We are very appreciative for the MANY food donations for Strathcona Food Bank and donations for Bag of Hope we have received in the past two week! Thank you!

3rd Week December 14-18 (joy)

Donate money or online towards the Holy Spirit team for Valeda House. Students are invited to bring in a monetary donation during the week and $2 for our Spirit Day on Friday.

4th Week December 21 & 22 (peace)

Students are encouraged to share a sign of peace (similar to acts of kindness)

It has been a hard year for many of us but a harder year for some. If you have the means to help please consider supporting these causes. We appreciate your consideration and generosity.

Holy Spirit Nutrition Program

At the beginning of the year we applied for PC Children's Charity School Nutrition grant and were accepted! President's Choice Children’s Charity school grants provide funding to publicly funded schools to deliver nutritious food and food-based education programs across Canada, fueling learning and empowering children and youth to make healthier choices. Our teachers, Mrs. Petersen and Mrs. Peterson, have been planning for our school to begin this week. Your child may choose a snack from a selection in a basket within each class. Ask your child about snacks they may have chosen and we will share pictures with you.

2020-2021 Yearbooks

Have you ordered your yearbook for this year?

Yearbooks are a special keepsake of your child's year of learning at Holy Spirit Catholic School. They are filled with the memories of friends, activities and events that are part of your child's life. Time goes quickly and memories fade but a yearbook will bring a smile, a laugh and help us to reminisce in years to come. Don't miss out on the chance to get a little piece of history at Holy Spirit School.

To order, go to the PowerSchool parent portal where fees are paid and select the option to add the yearbook to your cart. Payment must be made before your order is complete and placed. Cost of the yearbook is $25.00.

Computer Mouse

Students in grade 1 - 4 are using Chromebooks during class time. As the track pads can be challenging for children to use, Holy Spirit School recently purchased some computer mice from Staples to make it convenient for families to purchase for their child to use at school. If you would like to purchase a wired computer mouse ($15.25) for your child log into Parent Portal, pay, and inform your child's teacher.
