Manitou Springs Middle School
Friday, March 4th, 2022
Dear Families,
It was a busy, fun week at Manitou Middle School. We want to shout out our 8th graders for their hard work on the PSAT 8 and NAEP assessments. Our 6th graders went on a field trip to Skate City while our 7th graders enjoyed Cave of the Winds, Flying Pig Farm, and a performance by the Ormao Dance Company. We have two exciting weeks of learning until Spring Break. The final week before break will be a Spirit Week and include a school dance put on by Student Council. I hope you enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Dustin Cady
Principal

In the Classroom
8th grade: The Outsiders Dress Up Day
Art:
A huge shout out to the PAC for the 2021 printmaking grant approval to improve the middle school materials. With the addition of bench hooks, brayers, a baron, and a mini printing press, our printmaking projects are turning out really well. 8th Graders worked on creating an image of one of the Bill of Rights, carved it into the linoleum, and printed it with ink. 7th graders chose a social issue that they feel passionately about, carved it into styrofoam, and made 3 prints with ink. 6th Graders created a collagraph of an event or person in history and printed with ink as well. One print of each series will be featured in the 3rd-floor hallway of the SILC. The remaining 2 prints will make their way home for you to enjoy. Ask your art student what they learned about printmaking!
Math Scavenger Hunt:
One of Mrs. McClure-Wright's students found examples of math in everyday life!
Cave of the Winds:
The 7th graders had a blast on their field trip to Cave of the Winds!

New to Canvas!
In our continuing efforts to partner with parents for the academic success of students, the district is providing parents with the ability to access Canvas. Canvas is the Learning Management System being used at all schools.
The District hopes that these resources will provide you with specific information about your student’s curricula, so you have a better understanding of the work that teachers and students are doing. We hope you use this information to communicate to students that the skills and content identified in these courses are important to master. In addition, we hope this information provides parents with an opportunity to ask students to share ideas and opinions about what is being learned and keep track of attendance.
