Mr. Foreman's Weekly Flyer
September 2, 2014
What's Up This Week?
After some delays with Smore, the company that I use to make this newsletter, we are ready for launch. In the coming weeks, the students will take over much of this newsletter, but for the first few weeks, you get Mr. Foreman.
This week we have launched our Virginia Geography unit, have continued building our writing community, are beginning our first book (The BFG - But Don't tell this kids!), and will have our first word study quiz. I am also working on my reading assessments of your children as well as their word study/spelling assessments. We will begin grouping students in word study next week and in reading in the coming weeks.
Finally, we began switching teachers for math today. I hope this is not news to you, as your child brought home a letter with details about this change on Friday.
Back to School Night - Next Tuesday - 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
I would love to see as many of you as possible next Tuesday at Back to School Night. This will give you a chance to see what we are going to do in the coming weeks, learn about my homework philosophy, and learn more about what to expect with grades and life with a fourth grader. I've had two come through Brownsville in the past four years, so I truly understand you have a lot of questions.

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Towers Project
Your children were given 5 large marshmallows, 20 pieces of spaghetti, and 3 feet of tape to create the tallest tower that would remain standing in 20 minutes. No desks were harmed in the filming of this project. The winning team and their 38 1/2 inch tower are pictured below.
