Highlights of Our Week
Readers' Workshop:
- Our Journeys' selection this week was entitled, Half-Chicken. As readers we focused on determining the cause and effects of various story parts.
- We also learned more about visualizing an author's words to help enhance our comprehension skills.
- To build our vocabulary skills, we learned more about antonyms. We watched a Brain Pop Jr. video about synonyms and antonyms. Then we demonstrated our knowledge by completing an antonym activity.
- We played Kahoot with partners to reinforce our reading comprehension and vocabulary skills of Half-Chicken.
Writers' Workshop:
- During Writers' Workshop, we worked on revising an editing our Opinion Nomination Letters. We worked on making our writing longer and stronger as well as editing our spelling and punctuation.
Mathematicians:
- As mathematicians, we completed Unit 8 by taking our end of the unit Assessment. We also took a Cumulative Review Assessment to monitor our math progress.
- We started Unit 9 by learning how to divide objects into equal parts. We also learned various ways to name one part of a whole depending on how many parts an object is divided.
- We completed an Math Exploration in which we divided 'crackers' into equal share and labeled each share. We also learned how to divide geometric shapes into smaller shapes using a pattern block. Be sure to check out our engaging exploration photos below.
Science:
- During Science we continued to observe and document the changes we noticed in our painted lady caterpillars. Our caterpillars are now in the Chrysalis stage!
- As we documented our observations, we included pictures with labels for each of the life cycle stages we observed.
- We also observed and documented the growth of our Brassica seeds.
Social Studies
- To provide some background knowledge for our Walking Tour to Greenfield Hall, we learned more about Haddonfield long ago. We compared and contrasted how people used water as well as they types of homes they lived in from long ago to now.
Other Activities:
- Riley Yike was Star Student of the Week. We enjoyed learning more about Riley!
- We celebrated Emma Morris and Riley Yike's birthdays.
- As a class, we used our extra 20 minute recess pass that we earned from Jump Rope for Heart.
- We participated in a Day of Global Design by creating our very own roller coasters. We used paper plates, plastic cups, and marbles. Be sure to check out our amazing creations below.

This is Lawrence the reporter.This week I had a great time at school .On Thursday there was a big birthday for Riley ,I think he had a bonus because he was star student, and it was amazing !!!!!!!!!!His family came in and had donuts and he thought it would be fun to decorate the donuts with sprinkles and icing.
We also saw our caterpillars turn into chrysalis .Right now they are hanging in chrysalis in a butterfly cage.

This is reporter keagan.this week in 2Mu we went to P.E. And we played captcher The bean bag. This is how you play. So first, you put on a belt that has 2 things That you can pull of and then you pick teams one team has a yellow belt the other Team has red belts each team has a hoola hoop with bean bags that they gard When Mrs.W says go other teams try to run to the other teams side and steal A bean bag but if there tab on there belt gets ripped of bye the other team They put there hands up and go to the other teams jail. And when there in jail They mite get lucky and have someone sneak over And say JAIL BRAKE!!!!! Maybe you will play if your lucky to sneak to my “ jail “ Hi,this is reporter Emma. This week in school we had 20 bonus minutes from… PE!!!!!!!!!!First we begged Mrs.smith and Mrs.Murphy to go on playground equipment.So they did,they went on a spinny thing.We all pushed Mrs.Murphy and Mrs.Smith...but what was really fun was when a guy name Tyler Fipp pushed them with all of us.Well, I can’t wait to share about next week,This is Reporter Emma signing out❤️❤️⭐️⭐️ This is reporter Catalina Johnson, This week in 2MU we learned about HADDONFIELD...For example we learned about the transportation! Also about there water source! And places in the community. Places in the community long ago- There were colonial style! Places in the community now- High rise apartments,Colonial houses,Ranch homes, Split level houses and modern houses! Water source long ago- From Wells,Lakes,Streams, And rivers! Water source now- From Sewer lines,Water tower, And Indoor plumbing. Transportation long ago- People Traveled by foot,Train, Or horse and buggy. Transportation now- Foot,train,car,bus,plane,and bike. This is reporter busy bee LYLA LEVINE and this week we had Spanish and we were doing a B~day invitation because this semester we were learning about FIESTA`S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We could pick our own partners sort of because if your stick got called then that person whod call on someone soooooooooooooo if another person called on you and you had a plan with another person that would not be good sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo don’t make a plan because you might not be able to get that person as a partner in partnership.I was happy who picked me and I now we would have a rocking time and we did but we didn’t have enough time to finish .The first Spanish class senyorita.Divine came and told us about the project we picked our partners and the second class was today May 4,2018 also 5-4-18 ow I forgot the most important thing to say to you on this great day May the fourth be with you isn’t that funny you will get it if you’re a star wars fan am I right.Now we have ran out of time my friend see you next week stay toon.This is reporter busy bee LYLA LEVINE sinning off. This week we read HALF CHICKEN it’s about a chick that has one of everything in him like his one foot,one eye ,and one wing. And he gets all the attention and he loves it then one day he said I am off to Mexico City this was Macallan Barrett reported Hi! This is reporter Sara Foley reporting about 2mu’s painted lady caterpillars.19 caterpillars went in to chrysalis.2 caterpillars fell down but were still keeping them to see if they can still fly.we put them in a big basket made of net.They are hanging from the top.Today [friday] we got to look up close at the caterpillars.We used magnifying glass to see if we could see the wings in the chrysalis.The caterpillars look like miniature bats sleeping in a cave.I wonder how long the caterpillars will be in chrysalis.Did you know butterflies live everywhere except Antarctica.Caterpillars are amazing creatures!Reporter Sara Foley signing off!❤️❤️ This is reporter Nicholas. This week was awesome! In science we planted Brassica seeds and there starting to sprout. We planted two seeds in each cup,some only have one sprout and others have two sprouts in a cup.We will have to see if they grow any bigger then they were a couple days ago. Also in grammar we made adjective flowers to describe your self.I described myself using the words athletic, funny, friendly,smart,and creative.I colored the petals yellow,pink,purple,blue,and red.
