A Message From Dr. Browne
Parents and Students,
I hope that each of you were able to spend time talking together about the remarkable impact that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has had on our world, and our lives. Celebrating his life and legacy is an important reminder for us to always drive out darkness and hate, think about what you are doing for others, and to keep moving by all means. One of my favorites quotes by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reads, "Intelligence plus character, that is the true goal of education." May we always be reminded of his words and his actions.
We are nearing the end of the 2nd quarter, and the end of the 1st semester, and it is time for us to get an update on our students’ overall progress using our programmatic benchmark assessments. Students will be completing the Winter i-Ready Diagnostic in Math, Winter i-Ready Diagnostic in Reading (special education students Only), and a Winter Reading Plus Diagnostic.
During the fall assessment window, each subject area teacher was responsible for administering and monitoring the test completion, which led to students not having enough time during individual class periods to complete, and a very low rate of completion school wide. In order to increase our student participation so that teachers will have more meaningful and valuable data, as well as so students can progress in their individualized learning paths that will create more specific activities to work on during MTSS Time, we will be using a school wide testing schedule to administer these assessments. Please see below for the testing schedule that will take place Jan. 27th - Jan. 29th.
The last day of the 2nd quarter is January 29th. Be sure to check PowerSchool to receive the most current updates on your child's grades, and to communicate with your child's teachers to find out about make-up and content recovery assignments that may help your child improve their grades.
Together, we can do "virtually" anything!

Attendance for Face to Face Students
The South Carolina Department of Education has stated in recent documents that students signed up for on-campus/in-person learning are considered absent if they do not attend school onsite as they registered to do so.
If your child is signed up for Face to Face instruction for 5 days a week, they must be in attendance on the scheduled onsite days. If your student fails to attend classes in-person, the student will be marked absent for each day of non-attendance.
Once students are marked absent in PowerSchool, parents are notified with an automated message indicating the absence. If you feel you have received the message in error, please contact your child's teachers or our Data Specialist Mrs. Riley. They will be happy to double check our records. Please also let us know if you have a medical excuse or a parent note explaining the absence in order to determine if it will be coded as excused/unexcused.
Face to Face students that continue to accrue unexcused absences will be required to transition back to the 100% virtual learning model to allow for more adequate spacing in our classrooms.
