Message from the Principal
Snow, rain, sun -- this week has had it all!! We are even including a picture of the tiny snowman that was built Monday morning during our snow fun! Walking through our hallways and seeing our kids play at recess, I am amazed at the creativity that our students are bringing to their learning and to their play. They are such inspirations to me of finding joy in our everyday experiences.
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old … we grow old because we stop playing.”
~George Bernard Shaw

PTA Timberbeast Dance Fit!!
In just 4 weeks, we’ll kick off our Timberbeast Dance Fit on 4/26! Our goal is to raise $15,000 for the PTA General Fund, Fieldtrip Scholarships, classroom resources, and playground equipment and to strengthen our school community. This year more than ever, we need additional funds to provide an excellent educational experience for all of our students. We completely understand if your family is not in a position to financially support the school right now. You can still be involved by simply SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and extended family online at funrun.com. Sharing IS supporting! All students will participate in the Timberbeast Dance Fit, regardless of financial participation. We will also be following our school safety guidelines to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone.
We appreciate your support more than you know. More details to come as we get closer to kickoff!
Key dates to remember:

Message from the Nurse : Spring Allergies
As more spring-like weather continues to creep in, we are seeing a rise in allergy-like symptoms, such as runny noses and sore throats. Per our Covid Health Screening protocols, these symptoms require a student to be kept at home. If your child has known allergies, we encourage you to reach out to their doctor for a note explaining the symptoms and stating they are due to allergies. With a note like this, we are able to keep your child at school if the symptoms we see match the doctor’s note. Thanks!
P.E. News!
Dear Salem Woods Families,
It has been so nice seeing all of the smiling faces at Salem Woods.
As students transitioned back to school in the hybrid model we decided to start giving out weekly awards to the classes with the highest participation in PE for grades K-2 and 3-5. Congratulations to Mrs.Borza & Miss.Walker ’s classes for winning last week’s award. Keep turning in those exit slips! We are so proud of the students who are doing their PE lessons and turning in the exit slip when they are done.
In this week's lesson we talked about finding joy in physical activity. When we enjoy something, we are much more likely to continue to do it. So, try to get out and do something that you enjoy. Shoot hoops, jump rope, ride your bike, or whatever it is that excites you.
We also encourage you to take time over spring break to explore some activities that you have never done before. As the weather starts to improve, try to get outside. Maybe go for a hike with your family or make an obstacle course in the backyard. “Each day is another chance to change your life” - Anonymous. You never know what types of activities you will fall in love with until you try it. So get out there and try something new. The possibilities are endless.
Additionally, we are looking for pictures of students doing their at home PE lesson for the yearbook. If you have any pictures you would like to submit please email them to us.

Transfer information for the 21-22 school year
Is your student attending school on a transfer? The deadline for families to turn in transfer requests is quickly approaching. Families living outside the Monroe School District requesting a Choice Transfer (out of district) or families living within the Monroe School District requesting an Intra-District Transfer (in-district) for their child to attend a school outside of their neighborhood attendance area must complete forms to renew their transfers. This includes incoming kindergarten students. The deadline to turn in these forms to be considered for the 2021-2022 school year is Friday, April 16th. Forms received by this date will be reviewed and processed no later than April 30th. Families will be notified sometime in May for requests received by the April 16th deadline. Late forms may not be considered until August.
As a reminder, all transfer forms must be renewed each year. A separate form is required for each child requesting a transfer. Forms are available online by going to https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/register-for-school/transfer-requests. Paper copies can be obtained at any of our school buildings or at the Monroe School District Administration Building located at 14692 179th Ave SE in Monroe. For specific questions regarding transfers, please call the District Office at (360) 804-2573. For general enrollment questions, please contact the school office.

Digital Learning with Ms. Glaze
STEM Activity
This week we are doing a fun STEM activity leading into spring break. Students are challenged to design a fort and post their design on our Padlet. Siblings are encouraged to work together, and there are some great resources on the lesson page. Please remember to include teacher and student names to get credit.
Digital Citizenship
Please continue to remind your student to ensure they are practicing good digital citizenship while they are online. Students should be careful about using Google search and ensure that they are following our district policies - searches that could contain questionable content are flagged and sent to individual schools for investigation.
Digital Learning Award
Each week one class is awarded the Digital Awesomeness Award for outstanding participation. This week Ms. Riddle’s class received the award - congratulations!
Office Hours
Office Hours are not during the scheduled time for Digital Learning, which is Friday at 12:30-1:10. Look for the link in the DL lesson for that day.
