GRANDPARENT'S DAY HELD AT GAINESVILLE ELEMENTARY
March 9th was a day of much excitement in the Gainesville R-V School District. It was the day before Spring Break, and most importantly, Grandparent's Day. Each year, for the past 50 years, Gainesville Elementary has hosted Grandparent's Day to honor the grandparents of the students in the elementary. This year, in front of a packed gymnasium of spectators, the students performed songs from the oldies for their grandparents. This year, 344 grandparents attended the event. The program ended with the annual song for the grandparents being sang together by all the students.
After the concert, many students and grandparents enjoyed a turkey dinner prepared by the cafeteria staff. Grandparents then went to the students classroom to see work displayed in honor of their grandparents and were able to stop by the book fair. For those who had their picture taken, the images will be printed and distributed to the students.
We would like to thank everyone who attended Grandparent's Day. Thank you to our cafeteria staff and teachers for their hard work and dedication to make this day a success. We hope to see you again next year!

GES Students Visit Baker Creek Farm
The gifted students of Gainesville Elementary School took a field trip to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Farm on February 28th . The students previously completed a unit of study over “Genetics.” The students learned how genetics plays an important part in plants, animals, and people. The students learned about pure bred genes and hybrid genes. The students learned the seeds at Baker Creek are pure bred and the offspring of the plants will produce the same type of plant as the mother plant. Our guide, Ms. Kathy, showed us the business side of the farm from seed harvesting to packaging to distribution. The field trip to Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Farm was a success in exposing the students to real world application of their lessons learned along with career exploration.
